Congratulations for playing, representing with honor, unlike those Chinese Badminton players.

The Sri Lankan youngsters physique is not ideal for Football, Basketball or Volleyball. Still it is good if we promote all types of sports. Sports is not always about winning (though the majority of rish nations seem to be thinking so). It is about character building of the players and a form of entertainment for the spectators. The Sri Lanka Crisket used to be played and watched in that spirit though now there are signs of veering off. I hope our conuntry and its people enjoy the games in the true spirits not follow the money-oriented the rot of the world. This is how we should even tackle our other domestic issues; no need to run behind the rest of the world.
Best wishes to all our Olympians and all those aspiring to excel in sports. And honours go to those who participate in the true sense of sportsmanship.

Sports minister also knows where the money is and where there is a something..So that is why cricket is promoted,,Unfortunately, the corrupt adminstrators have stripped the cricket board of all its funds..now in debt..very soon, even the furniture wont be safe.

Sure Niluka fought hard but need to say what I observed.
It was very sad to see the his complacency (which was set in by his over-confidence), at the latter part of the second round which he won. At one point Niluka was 20 and the Indian was on 7 and scored straight 8 more points to collect 15 finally. Niluka all most blew off the opportunity but managed to score the winning point. Even in the last round, it was Niluka who lifted the Indian to the winning position by committing many unforced errors.
I wish him all the best and hope he would learn from his mistakes and bring glory to SL very soon.

For a small nation, we have done wonderfully well in the field of sport. Most other countries have kept aside a significant proportion of their budget to develop their sportsmen and sportswomen. All we have is a minister who is more of a hindrance than a promoter.

Niluka, don't be disheartened. You played heart out. We are proud of you. When the great scorer comes he will not write if you win or lose but how you played the game. Good luck luck and all the best for the future.

Congrats. But sad you lose to this arragont indian. Next time you can and we always with you.
Tikka Thursday, 02 August 2012 05:18 AM
True we need to have professional coaches but I don't agree that he played a better game than Parupalli because he should then have won!! You logic is cockeyed. What about this logic
then Beats the number 8 player and loses to the number 21 player!!
Wara Thursday, 02 August 2012 04:18 AM

Niluka, you made us all proud with your performance with the limited resources available to you. At least you stretched it to 3 sets. Just shows we have abundant talent but the Govt just doesn't know how to harness it.

Niluka, You made us proud. You played a better game than Parupalli. You are a uncut unpolished precious gem. I think you didnt had a propper coach to guide you to victory. We saw your oponent guided by his two professional coaches. Our sports Administration should take the responsibilty on your defeat. Why were two officials seated while you are playing i/o coaches.Sports administration are wasting lot of money for sports which we cant think of comming to International Standars( Eg. Rugger & Motor Racing).May be there are reasons for that. What is the purpose of having sports Minister? He is just a puppet dancing to the tunes of somebody, I believe.
Niluka, you are a professional player.Never give up.
Lanka Shantha Wednesday, 01 August 2012 10:11 AM
Our Sports minister must promote football, basket ball, volleyball and beach volley ball these are the best sports where less money is needed. The rest of the sports will grow automatically. But our sports ministry is behind cricket which is an expensive game like tennis.
Dil Wednesday, 01 August 2012 10:08 AM
any way congratulation Niluka
BF Wednesday, 01 August 2012 09:57 AM
It is not the end of the road. You made the country proud. Sports is all about as to how you play and not about the defeat. Well done !!!
