The Sri Lankan Navy today denied allegations by the Tamil Nadu coastal area fishermen's association that 15 Indian fishermen were injured when they were attacked by the Lankan naval personnel in mid sea early morning today.

According to media reports N.J. Bose, the president of the Tamil Nadu coastal area fishermen's association had alleged that the Sri Lankan navy had attacked and injured 15 Indian fishermen near the International Maritime Border Line early morning today.

The Navy denies attacking any fishermen and these false allegations are made time to time, Navy spokesman Captain Athula Senerath told Daily Mirror online

Reportedly the Indian Fisheries department officials had stated that some Indian fishermen had violated rules by using banned nets and that doing so would impact Lankan fishermen and lead to tension. (Daily Mirror online)

    Ajith,
The navy has been very professional in dealing with these Tamil Nadu fisherman. In fact they are leaning back and accommodating the TN fisherman to break INTERNATIONAL MARITIME RULES due to political pressure.
The navy should arrest and impound all boats, equipment and arrest the fisherman. Then they should be prosecuted and put in jail with heavy fines. Still the TN fisherman's lives would be better in SL jails than in TN itself. Therein lies the problem...we might get a flood of boat people from TN wanting free food and lodging.

Nom the burning question: Is your name really Ajith? LOL

Tamil Nadu fisherman always complain, they are paid by the LTTE to do that. Shoot them if they venture in to our waters.

It has been a pattern by sinking navy of alnka to attackand steal the catch of the dat from Tamil fisherman of both north ceylon and tamil nadu.
It's a reflection of the indifference of Indian naval defence and the brahmin politicos of Tamil nadu.
