United National Party (UNP) Uva Province chief ministerial candidate Harin Fernando said today he did not have any secret meeting with United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa but only met him accidently.

“My meeting Mr. Rajapaksa was neither preplanned nor secret,” Mr. Fernando said responding to a question asked by Daily Mirror on recent media reports that he had secretly met Mr. Rajapaksa.

He said he bumped in to Mr. Rajapaksa while on his way to attend a rally at Uva Paranagama.

“My casual meeting with Mr. Rajapaka did not even last for five minutes,” Mr. Fernando said.

He said Mr. Rajapaksa had wished him well stating that he would be the next chief minister of Uva province.

Mr. Fernando said he was confident that the party’s Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa would participate in the election campaign.

However he said Mr. Premadasa had not confirmed the dates, on which he would attend the rallies in the Monaragala Districts, either to him or to MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara. (YP)

Why is this such a big issue? Can't opposing politicians talk among each other without others getting unnecessarily getting suspicious ?

There is nothing wrong in meeting an opposition politician.,so long as Harin has no plans to cross over to the government.
