UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara announcing his resignation as an MP said he would contest the elections to the NWP on the UPFA ticket. He said he believed that freedom in the UNP was under severe threat.

Saying that he was joining the Government not as a disappointed person but as a victorious person, Mr. Jayasekera claimed, "My leader is Mahinda Rajapaksa".
