Sri Lankan cricketing legend Muttiah Muralitharan said today that Channel 4 had lost its credibility in his eyes due to airing an edited clip of an interview which distorted the context he spoke in.

“It was unethical for them to edit three minutes of a 45 minute interview and air it. Channel 4 lost all credibility in my eyes” he told Daily Mirror online.

When questioned as to if the journalists assured him of airing the entire interview prior to agreeing on the interview, he replied in the affirmative.

“Yes that’s what they said and they promised that they would carry everything. I was not the one who wanted to be interviewed. They are the ones who wanted it badly. If they published the entire interview that would be the right thing to do and if they were to edit what I said they should have told me. I would have accepted it if they told me, but they did not and I think that was very unethical” he said. (Hafeel Farisz, Sanath Desmond)

    RohanR Thursday, 21 November 2013 12:18 AM

Well Murali.... I heard the Channel 4 interview and this one. It sounded awful and heartless in the Channel 4 interview when you said “Because of 20 r 30 mothers crying to me, that means that is the truth?” and "these people also can mislead". People disappeared in North and East heavily and in the West. These people are not militants, but normal public. But you excuse now is that Channel 4 edited you heavily. It was loud and clear what you said. Now, go back and listen to your interview here. Your interview here itself should have been heavily edited from the 12 something minutes to save you from embarrassment and to save time for the listeners as you repeated the same thing many times and laboured through minor points. I think you want to get some genuine advice on both what to say and on media interviews. There is a saying that, 'don't keep digging if you are stuck in a hole.' Hope you understand. By the way, what Murali did here is not a doosra to Channel 4, but a hit-wicket.
