UN Chief Ban Ki-moon is still determining what his own next steps will be in terms of reviewing follow-up to his Expert Panel report on the accountability in Sri Lanka, a UN spokesman said yesterday.

Responding to the latest Sri Lankan government response, acting Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Farhan Haq addressing the media at the UN headquarters New York also that “as far as we are concerned, the Government (SL) has said that it will provide carefully considered views, and we will be looking at those whenever they come in.  And we’ll see precisely what it is that they provide.”

In Colombo External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has said that they’ll be writing a letter to the Secretary-General describing the humanitarian work engaged in the northern Sri Lanka, but that they won’t respond to the report because they don’t view it as legitimate.

Here UN accuse that several thousand was killed in few months. More than a lakh people including children was starving, displaced, wounded in the last phase of war. To find the truth why SL worry to have a inquiry?

    Dias Thursday, 12 May 2011 09:06 AM

Now i feel even the UN was suporting the LTTE under the table, the main bussness was wapans to the west now with out LTTE money makers are crying,o my god what a stupid world,

    xlntgson Thursday, 12 May 2011 09:54 AM

OIC at UN. Oh, I see, baalagiri dhosaya!

    RF Thursday, 12 May 2011 12:06 PM

GL has taken the sentence out of context. The report says,

‘As repression of Tamils increased after the 1983 communal riots, the tamil community became increasingly militarized and the number and ranks of militant groups swelled, taking advantage of the conducive environment for training and organizing in Tamil Nadu. The LTTE began as a Tamil liberation movement and eventually became the most disciplined and most nationalist of the Tamil liberation groups, emerging as the dominant force espousing a separatist agenda in the mid 1980’s.’
Discipline here would mean strict obedience to rules of LTTE.

UN Ban Ki Moon should reveal all ltte and families assisted for migration overseas. Depriving the genuine refugees because of funding.. And why was their names changed, deed poll. And who gave the instruction to assist these terrorist. To discredit Sri Lanka. Knowing fully that these are killers on the run. Why the Interpol,FBI etc was not sought in this matters.Where is the professionalism and accountability. What is crediblility and honesty. Attack is the best form of defence.

    Kumar Thursday, 12 May 2011 02:19 PM

You want some one to die to kill Ban ki Moon, the secretary of world large organization.

    nagu Thursday, 12 May 2011 08:53 AM

Full or half report - most of the things in the Report are lies.... so should be ignored....

    Hanu Thursday, 12 May 2011 02:38 PM

Are you trying to say that for the crimes of some terrorists against some innocent Sri Lankan civilians, other innocent Sri Lankan civilians, who must be protected by their democratically elected government, must be killed in their thousands?

    I don't get your logic.

    Ajith Thursday, 12 May 2011 02:28 PM

No one is supporting LTTE here.. Even UN has held them too for war crimes. Destroying LTTE is a must.No question about it. But the question is, while destroying LTTE, have we destroyed thousands of innocent Sri Lankan citizens..? What did they do ? they are pity caught between LTTE and the Army. LTTE is ruthless in keeping them for their safety, but we are not LTTE to kill the innocents.. Rather crying nothing happened and blaming UN, why not we try to prove them nothing happened. But if it has happened, then what are we suppose to do?

    ranga Thursday, 12 May 2011 03:43 PM

It seems to me from the comments here and elsewhere that the control on media was so intense in that, due to what we are told, we refuse to believe the opposite.

We even go to the extent of challenging the world largest body at its CEO.

    God Bless Lanka

    Rohan Thursday, 12 May 2011 06:16 AM

Mr. Moon if you ever see the photo of a father holding his 3 years old baby in arms and weeping over his death. (Recently bublished on sunday observer 1st May 2011) no body will never tell LTTE as a most disciplin liberation fighters . This is one of a thousands heart breaking incidents. During past years, when we get on to the train, we are not sure of getting down as a one piece and we were on dead fear and shivering. We only know that, Mr moon did you do any thing to save us or really felt our greave. Shame on your double standered. One policy on poor countries which is different to the rich. Shame! shame!

    Darwin Thursday, 12 May 2011 04:01 AM

Well said sir, take you time.

    kumara Thursday, 12 May 2011 04:08 AM

    UN,What a waste of time,and money?.

    Suduloonuwa Thursday, 12 May 2011 04:28 AM

The HIDE AND SEEK on both sides is not going to bring any good results to the citizens of Sri Lanka as a nation.

Nicky Karunarathna Thursday, 12 May 2011 04:38 AM

There is nothing for you to wait and see Mr. Moon - best advice is to commit suicide with your three cohorts who has defamed and vilify 20 million Sri Lankans with scurrilus language with falsification of facts whom under went 27 years of most lethal, gruesome, brutal, ruthless, barbarian terrorist outfit and then you are calling them most discipline liberation fighters! Sooner the better mate.

    malkanthi Thursday, 12 May 2011 05:21 AM

Since we are not guilty, we should respond immediately, to avoid unnecessary manipulation. Since we do not posses the intellectual caliber today, we should outsource them.

    ben Thursday, 12 May 2011 05:24 AM

Did you read the full report or did you just choose to read some parts of it? . Reading the full report carefully makes one know what one is talking about...

GON HARAKA Thursday, 12 May 2011 05:41 AM

You better wait and see cos Merv got a suicide squad waiting for you and the committee ...I guess that you guys go look for fish in dead sea than finding out the true facts in countries which go through terrorism. With gods help, we came out of it. Hats off to srilankan forces, they brought peace back to SL.

    Calvin Thursday, 12 May 2011 05:42 AM

I know why he wants to wait.
His next term voting is due in next few months. And if he is elected (I rather say if he is not chased away) his first thing will be to run behind SL again. Otherwise all the LTTE coolies will be held him against their money.. :)

    sisira Thursday, 12 May 2011 05:29 AM

    Good one Nicky,

    ind Thursday, 12 May 2011 03:42 AM

Ha, ha, haa !! You have to wait long time !!! Long wait will be a goat-scape for him. And also that's the only thing he can do.

    MH-NZ Thursday, 12 May 2011 06:13 AM

Joker of the Century. Has he even up to now quetioned Libyan bombing by NATO or USA invading pakistan without their knowledge he needs to first join armed forces to learn realities before asking for things inside glass doors.Disgraceful Korean

    RF Thursday, 12 May 2011 06:19 AM

Moon you have to wait for ever...

    AKALYIA Thursday, 12 May 2011 06:22 AM

I have never seen Srilanka papers or webistes reported about Army attrocities .This is what lot of things gone on unrecored and has come out fron UN report. The news editors and Journalist are biased on reporting .Even this coment colum they sensored and favourite to Army.
Do not do that.It is not a good democracy and not healthy for the governance

    Mahinda Thursday, 12 May 2011 07:07 AM

He should be referred as Mr Ban. Moon is a part of the Secretary-General's personal name Ki-Moon. It is a Korean name. You and this newspaper just show their ignorance by referring to him as Moon.

    banda Thursday, 12 May 2011 08:03 AM

If Ban is his family name, his father should not be disgraced. Moon would work well for our task.

    dutugamunu Thursday, 12 May 2011 08:17 AM

so we all heve to supprot LTTE like you .. is that what you are saying and is that your democracy !!!

Prf .R.M.K.G Ratnayake - city university - new york

    MagodisThuma Thursday, 12 May 2011 08:23 AM

Sir you are like a Rolex, which doesn't show the correct time !

Mo Fk Chalieh Thursday, 12 May 2011 08:39 AM

What we see in all these comments is people writing without having read the report. The report is pointing fingers at BOTH the LTTE and the SL forces. By rejecting the report we are also saying BOTH parties are clean. The other point is that most intelligent people have no qualms about the killing of LTTE fighters. But people do ask questions about the killing of innocent Sri Lankans. Im sure we agree that No innocents should be killed whatever religion they belong to.
