Agree! Some people are doing well because of the remittances of their overseas family members. Why should others take credit for it?

    shalan Friday, 10 December 2010 09:00 AM

wt a bunch of stupid comments!

    Derana Friday, 10 December 2010 09:01 AM

Ah Geetha You know Mr.Amunugama well than other people. Poor Dr. falling prey to the & Co. tactics

    Rohantha Friday, 10 December 2010 09:05 AM

So from all this we conclude that both the middle and the lower classes have increased while the upper class has decreased. This upper class status will in future be reserved for the Rulers and their cronies.

Geetha Naga Friday, 10 December 2010 09:11 AM

    Asiayawe Ashchariya !!!

Oyage sudu kella Friday, 10 December 2010 09:24 AM

Why did'nt Sarath Amunugama say that the well to do class has increased, this could be true.

    kassa Friday, 10 December 2010 09:25 AM

Yes you right. Because most of the middle class survive on their efforts. Not like High class & Sri lankan politicians.

    robinson Friday, 10 December 2010 09:26 AM

Yes, while getting fed from our tax money and without paying a single cent as tax to the state.

    Econmic Friday, 10 December 2010 09:28 AM

Hey common,Just becasue people buy TV's & Car's that doesnt mean all low income people buying those stuffs.
Practicaly when you reduce the tax rates obviouly there wuill be a increase in sales by the way minister TV is now become a common basic need in every family (like clothing etc..)

    International-Class Friday, 10 December 2010 09:30 AM

He is Acharya not a medical Doctor. and too old to understand the problems of middle-class. he doesn't talk thru his mouth these days.

    Econmic Friday, 10 December 2010 09:31 AM

Only the minority of readers who have a grudge against the victorious government which won against terrorists, global economic disaster, pissu pusa, kata kediccha kevla, tin tin, and all internal and external evil forces always make adverse comments against whatever the news item which highlights about successes the Sri Lanka is registering. It is a meek murmur from the dust bins thrown in to gutters.

Intelligent dumbo are u living in sri lanka

    sw Friday, 10 December 2010 12:41 PM

What is increasing is the gap between haves and have nots.

    Gungwathura Friday, 10 December 2010 03:56 PM

Our learned politicians are wasting their time in a small country like Sri Lanka. They are more suited to run a developed country like the US.

    dass Friday, 10 December 2010 05:46 PM

Is TV a middle class item ?

    viv Friday, 10 December 2010 08:41 PM

How di he become a Dr, silly thinking such things must be measure with proper statistics loke GDP, fooling yourself thinking that you aree foolong us......!!!!!!

    Miles Saturday, 11 December 2010 12:35 AM

The upper class growth rate is phenomenol and far exceeds the growth of everything else by percentage except the cost of living!

    citizen1 Saturday, 11 December 2010 02:08 AM

Another case of singing for one's supper....a popular trend recently.

    malkanthi Saturday, 11 December 2010 03:13 AM

No wonder he is catagorized as a senior minister!! This is their capacity!

    Propaganda Saturday, 11 December 2010 05:59 AM

Aiyo MInister, don't say that....it shows you reduced taxes to sell more TVs to get your propaganda message across.

    Amunu Friday, 10 December 2010 07:46 AM

Also, the number of people eating cakes have also gone up...

    Cobra Friday, 10 December 2010 06:52 AM

The increase in sales of cars, TVs and household appliances does not mean that the middle class has increased. These are purchased by the filthy rich while the middle class is struggling to survive each day at a time! The middle class cannot even use the appliances they have received as gifts as the cost of power is beyond them. What is the minister talking about?

    lankaputha Friday, 10 December 2010 07:00 AM

go to a slum and you still will find a TV and a three wheeler. But they are not middle class.

And if you call them as middle class, the ministers would be in Very Very High Huge extreme upper class

    observer Friday, 10 December 2010 07:05 AM

imports of cars ad electronic appliances have gone up due to the reduction in import duties. not due to rising income levels.

Ibnu Batuta Friday, 10 December 2010 07:05 AM

Don't measure by cars and TVs find out how many persons have reduced their meals to two a day, Mr. Minister.

    w.g.l Friday, 10 December 2010 07:11 AM

Dear Amunugama don t make it fool out of poor peoples

Thulani nangih Friday, 10 December 2010 07:18 AM

My dear minister, Please don't be a bxxxdy joker please.

    AMARE Friday, 10 December 2010 07:24 AM

    POOR BRCOMING POORER ?

    MR 1/2/3 Friday, 10 December 2010 07:25 AM

    Hey Mr.Amunugama ,
The increase in so called middle class can be due to either upward shifting of number of people from lower class category in to middle class or downward shifting of number of persons from high class category to middle class . Of these two possibilities , are you try to tell that this Puthrasamagama has done things to justify the first option ?? If so I think you are just starting to show signs of "senile dementia" a disease which can affect the thinking ability of elderly ,Suba Anagathayak1

    reagan Friday, 10 December 2010 07:30 AM

what better reply than this. Cheers sltk2004

Geetha Kumarasinghe Friday, 10 December 2010 07:34 AM

The well learned minister is telling the truth backed by the central bank statistics.

what you silly people know about economics?

    w.g.l Friday, 10 December 2010 07:42 AM

are you playing fools with poor peoples in this country must be he is Dreaming in old days we can forgive him

    sltk2004 Friday, 10 December 2010 06:48 AM

Very true. Little by little the people with lower income will vanish from SL because they can't survive, and as a result the percentage of the middle class will increase ;)

    Ramesh Friday, 10 December 2010 07:53 AM

Also the upper class is becoming poor, which is resulting an increase in the middle class...

    lankaputha Friday, 10 December 2010 08:04 AM

adding a little more, that means the wealthy class has become more wealthier, and now they purchase TV's even for the toilets and buying cars even for the cats and dogs they own

    Lover Friday, 10 December 2010 08:22 AM

Thank you very much to the people who gave 3/4 to this gov.. you last long..

    M.R.Percige_Putha Friday, 10 December 2010 08:23 AM

kiri putha Friday, 10 December 2010 08:51 AM

even a foolish knows the sale amount is increased when the price of the goods are decreased. mr minister cant u remember that u r government reduced the massive tax on vehicles. that is the reason to increase the sale. not any thing else. dot give this kind of foolish indications.

    AF Friday, 10 December 2010 08:54 AM

It looks that minister gone nuts again. .
