Sri Lankans would be able to watch the elegant Perseid meteor shower from August 10, the Ministry of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy said.

About 50 meteors would appear per hour during 11, 12 and 13 of August and many more meteors would appear with brighter colours on December 14 and people could view the meteors with naked eye, the Ministry said.

Every year in late July and early August, two meteor showers happen together. One is the Delta Aquarid shower and the other is the famous Perseid meteor shower.

Meteor showers would appear in the North Eastern sky between midnight and dawn. (DS & LHP)
