May day traffic plan

A special traffic plan will be implemented for the May Day tomorrow, where eleven May Day rallies are to be held within the Colombo city, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mahinda Balasuriya said. 

The roads that will be closed due to the rallies are the F.R Senanayake Road, Green Path (Library Roundabout to Horton Roundabout), Baseline Road (from Dematagoda junction to Borella junction) and the Park Lane (from Park Road to the Isipathana Road junction).

Western Province Traffic DIG Asoka Wijethileke said that the vehicles from the Kandy Road attending the UPFA rally have to be parked in Deans Road, Sudu Wella area. Vehicles from Galle Road and Negombo areas attending the rally have to be parked in the Green Path area.

Vehicles from Highlevel Road and Kaduwela areas have to be parked in Reid Avenue. Vehicles from Piliyandala-Kesbewa and Sri Jayawardenapura areas have to be parked in the Independent Square area and Maitland Crescent area respectively.

The vehicles attending the NFF rally have to be parked in the Arnold Rathnayake and D.R Wijewardena Mawatha.

The vehicles attending the JVP rally have to be parked in the Isipathana Road, Park Lane, Saranankara Road, Pamankada Road, Highelevel Road and Maya roundabout.

DIG Wijethileke also said that the roads where the processions would be held will be closed for traffic till they reach their respective meeting venues. (SupunDias)
