One person was killed when he was attacked with a bottle following a quarrel near a ‘Dansala’ in Rathmalana last morning.

Police said that the victim was identified as a 40-year-old Darshana Keerthi Kumara from Matara who is temporarily residing at Wellawatte. He died after being admitted to the Kalubowila hospital

Police said that the incident had occurred after an argument over a jacket stolen from the victim’s bike in a previous day, had spiraled out of control. The suspect who had allegedly stolen the jacket and is responsible for the attack, has been taken into custody, Mt. Lavinia Police said.

Mt. Lavinia police are conducting further investigations and the suspect is to be produced at the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today. (M.S Perera)

Did the suspect think that the jacket is also a part of the Dan sela. Wonder what sort of human beings are these who cannot even properly partake of freely given food without thinking of robbing somebody else's property - especially on Vesak Day.

10 to 15 years back within a Dansala there prevailed a saintly Holy peaceful atmophere, where the devotees; treated those taking part in meals with loving kindnss. To day it is a competiton
and devotess are treated as commercil cosumers. The organisers have to show those who contributred for it, with pomp and glory. Sans mutual respect, devotion and merit, the Dansala have become centers for Fun Frolic and Love.So Rape, Robbery and Murder are a common sight.

Just because it happened near or in a Dansala, why is everyone blaming the Dansala and its organizers?

Let's just hope justice is served for the family of the victim.
