A man of around 40 years had reportedly fallen into the Nilwalaganga in Matara near the Mahanama Bridge and disappeared, residents said.

However, the identity of the person who is suspected to have drowned is yet to be identified.

The incident had occurred on this morning despite instructions by SSP Mathara  Deshabandu Tennakoons to deploy two Policemen at the bridge to prevent such incidents.

A special Navy team has been deployed to recover the body. (Pix and tex by Krishan Jeewaka)
