Man arrested for cheating 35 women

Police arrested a person who posed as a lawyer, cheating nearly 35 women by taking their jewellery worth Rs.6 million on the promise that he would marry them.

He was taken into custody while he was hiding in Kegalle when the police received a complaint from one of the victims in Nuwara Eliya that the suspect had taken away jewellery belonging to her worth Rs.500,000 by making the same promise.

During investigations it was revealed that he had placed advertisements in marriage proposal pages in Sinhala and English newspapers. The victims are from around the island but especially from upcountry and down south. (Supun Dias)

This just shows how many desperate women are there in the country to marry and settle down that they even go to the extent of being fooled by playboys and Lotharios who take advantage of the situation.

How could they part with their jewelry to this guy? I thought it should be the other way around, the guys give girls jewelry. These women must be very foolish to part with expensive jewelry to a stranger that they met via a newspaper ad.
If something is too good to be true, it probably is so.

Time and again we hear this kind of stories, This fellow played with 35 poor ladies, Theiir lives,prpoerties and vergins. Death penalty is the one only solution otherwise 36th victim will be around the corner. He must be a master to carry out all these marriages.

was happening for years. Now they must check about the unqualified doctors and the pharmacists who are in practice around the village areas.
