Malinga pulls out of Middlesex

Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga has decided against playing for Middlesex in English county cricket's Twenty20 competition, the county's managing director Angus Fraser announced.

The 28-year-old paceman, whose unusual 'slingshot' action makes him difficult to face, has been told to rest after completing his Indian Premier League duties with the Mumbai Indians.

Malinga, who retired from Test cricket last year, complained of soreness to his knee and back after the IPL campaign. "Naturally, we are extremely disappointed that Lasith will not be playing for Middlesex CCC in this summer's t20," said Fraser.

"Everyone at the club was looking forward to working with and watching Lasith play for The Panthers. His presence would have added a healthy dose of star dust to proceedings.

"I totally understand Lasith's concerns - his workload has been and is high - but I am disappointed we are the side to be denied of his services.

"A lot of work goes in to securing these deals and getting 'No Objection Certificates' from the relevant governing bodies.

"But we are not the only county to suffer in this way and over the coming days we will do all we can to secure the services of another high quality international cricketer for our T20 campaign," added the former England pace bowler and cricket correspondent. (Indian Express)

Well for a cricketer its better to play county cricket than playing in carvinals - So many legendary cricketers played for counties numerous occassions - not very many SL players though - its a priviledge, certainly you cannot become a bussinessman overnight playing for county

TM Lal Tuesday, 29 May 2012 11:20 AM

Yes , that could be the only reason forced him to take this decision!

Malinga bowls a yoker at the local media and the so called " patriotic" jealous cricket lovers. Most of the people are jealous when players earn honest living by playing a league but the same people silent when politicians are many merry with public money.

Had Middlesex offered a Higher Payment than Mumbai our Hero would hv been their. Fraser you should hv known that better.

only " 64-QAM" donkey cant understand the truth. Majority of SL cricket lovers know that these fellows just go behind money and dont think about the Country.

Kiri Gamarala Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:02 AM

Does Lasith Malinga has a motherland? May be on paper in his certificate of birth.

    achtung Tuesday, 29 May 2012 09:02 AM

well good to see mr.malinga come to his senses and get his priorities sorted out - though i agree middlesex must feel hard done - he should have considered the scenario long before he signed it but of course we all know that this is not the players but their agents who are behind these signings.
