Star bowler Lasith Malinga had told Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials yesterday that he has still not decided whether he would represent the local Southern Express team or the IPL team Mumbai Indians at the forthcoming Champions’ League tournament.

Malinga had asked several top officials who met the Sri Lanka T20 skipper on the sidelines of the Test match when he visited the SLC why they let Tillekratne Dilshan, a key member of his Southern team play for Surrey instead of the local Super Fours tournament, if they felt the local tournament was important.

Malinga had also told officials that he was not bothered about money but had asked them to remunerate the members of his local team decently if they wished him to lead them to the tournament. He has spoken emotionally about his teammates who would only paid a pittance and had said if the local officials are serious about the tournament and Sri Lankan team’s prospects they should looks after all players well. The officials however have reportedly turned down Malinga’s request. Malinga stands to lose more than Rs. 20 millions if he chooses to play for the local team.

I agree with Pandiths that Malinga should be allowed to decide whom to represent in the forthcoming IPL. Yes, he is free to decide "First come Money then the Country".

When Malinga was Injured and out of the team SLC didn't even bother about him. Did not pay him for months. So why he should lose Rs. 20m bcos of these puppets at SLC? Go play for MI.

Suq Madique Sunday, 27 July 2014 11:39 AM

Agree. He should look after his own interest because SLC will not stand by him if he's unable to play and earn a living.

True he must get that money, he is getting old? This will not affect of his love for SL. He is our T20 Captain.

Malinga should play for IPL, He is earning money in a professional and honest way than the "Kudu Billionares" who are turning Srilanka into Kudu lanka.

Choice is not that clear cut. You should compare like for like. How do you make decisions in your life.

Thanks to sri lanka Malinga made a mark for him self but of course through lot of hard work and dedication. He is not a loyal cricketer when its come to country or club but more importantly have taken the Ariel root.It does not matter you play or not another person will get an opportunity.

    BUSHEL Saturday, 26 July 2014 11:33 AM

No one can say anything to him. By playing IPL he is not risking the lives of the Sri Lankans. Love for the country should be displayed starts from the politicians who eats the money of the nation and escalates taxes and cost of living .

    dulan Sunday, 27 July 2014 02:39 AM

This is good all the comments in support of Malinga .I agree too

    Serendib Saturday, 26 July 2014 04:44 AM

SLC should allow Malinga to decide...he is paid for his talent..so he can decide which side to play.

    jayantha Sunday, 27 July 2014 04:39 AM

let him bring some money ti Sri Lanka
