A A A

President Maitripala Sirisena, in his meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, agreed to stop the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) from acting on what he called ‘political directions’.

The representatives of Mr. Rajapaksa brought to the notice of President Sirisena that this unit had been politicised.

Informed sources said the President accepted it and assured to free it from political interference.

Already, two former Ministers, namely Basil Rajapaksa and Johnston Fernando, have been remanded after legal actions initiated under investigations by the FCID.  (Kelum Bandara)

Good decision by My3, otherwise he is in trouble, eg; arresting jonny now will increase no of people in kgala MR rally, dont know who gave order.

    willowsd Thursday, 07 May 2015 10:17 AM

MR wants to stop his family members being brought to justice, what we voted for MS is to bring them to justice, as everyone agreed that MR and the gang is corrupted and looting national wealth, if MS listen to MR now and act otherwise, then he is betraying us of 6.3 mil voters

Desmond Jeromme Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:37 PM

    Paving way to increase looters.

Horri Jimonis Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:38 PM

Yes correct. Now we become fools listening to fools.

Kiris Baba Amaray Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:40 PM

Really the public are cheated and looters will play their games again.

Horri Jimonis Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:40 PM

    Is MS scared to MR?

Kiris Baba Amaray Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:42 PM

All those idiots who came to meet our Presidents are the No. 1 crooks. Now they can do anything....

Desmond Jeromme Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:43 PM

After the 19th Amendment, PM to have more powers. He should make decisions, not the President alone.

    J Palitha Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:45 PM

No man you are wrong. My3 is too lenient...

Kiris Baba Amaray Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:46 PM

Again Mahinananda will start looting public money.

Bubble Banda Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:47 PM

Then all the culprits will be free to do anything. Aiyo Sirisena.

    saman Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:55 PM

cannot comprehend why a president who has been defeated by the people have to be taken so seriously. if president sirisena aligns himself to the former president, he will lose respect not only of the people of this country but the international community as well. god help president sirisena and god help this country!

Kiris Baba Amaray Thursday, 07 May 2015 03:17 PM

My3 has taken the wrong decision, listening to the rogues. Again these raskols will start looting. Its a wonder that the Nawalapitiya crook also joined yesterdays meeting.

    Mia Thursday, 07 May 2015 05:35 PM

    All the crooks are politicians

knight rider Thursday, 07 May 2015 12:19 PM

I hope MS will not fall into MR trap. Crooks should be brought to book than being covered. Democracy will b killed if you bend to MR request. via DM Android App

    faro Thursday, 07 May 2015 12:23 PM

ok. sign of real politic is emerging. finally all these people will get to together and Ranil will be left down. Anyway Ranil is a Gentleman knows no crook means via DM Android App

    Dhanapala Thursday, 07 May 2015 12:30 PM

FCID must proceed without political interference..

Rhonda Taylor Thursday, 07 May 2015 12:36 PM

MS promised the country not to interfere with the Fraud Investigations that are currently being conducted. Why is MR so afraid if he is clean???

True Citizen Against Corruption Thursday, 07 May 2015 12:49 PM

We vote for MS as he claimed that he will bring all culprits and state assets looters to the book of law, why he is now after the meeting with MR wish to remove the FCID unit,we have another election ahead, if this is removed and the culprits are given free to roam, the public will answer on the right time.

    Fassey Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:00 PM

FCID must be independent, but at the same time SLFP members should not disrupt law and order. Criminals and rogues should be questioned for their crimes. Protecting the criminals and making protests is going against the law. Those going against law should be punished.

    ahmad Thursday, 07 May 2015 08:44 PM

    How r u.

    Denise Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:13 PM

Oh no - we voted for you to stop the thieves!

    david Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:14 PM

Political interference is different from political direction. The cabinet, minsters or other political officials should have the right to lodge a complaint. This is political direction simply because the complainant happens to be a politician or a political body. sort of like a private company lodging a complaint. this is a basic right in pursuit of justice.Interference is when they (anyone) try to influence the FCID to make a judgment call (either guilty of not guilty) on any individual. FCID should be allowed to conduct investigations, gather evidence etc without anyone hindering. In many developed countries Hindering an investigation (even by not providing evidence) is a punishable crime. many politicians made claims to have evidence. I think they should be charged for NOT producing this evidence.Hope Mr. President made the correct distinction regarding interference. The people did give him a mandate to curb corruption. this by mandate become politically initiated.

    Windsor Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:14 PM

The FCID should first have the backbone to catch the big fish without being told to do so.

    dan Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:16 PM

Ranil is not a clean man as people think. He does not care about M3 and concern only about himself.

Coconut Republic Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:25 PM

Upon finding the facts , create a a very senior member team from each party from the coalition for the final decision. But member must with clean records along with you and pm. Good luck!

    c.pinto Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:27 PM

My3 needs Mr! vvithaut him no chance to vvin!

    Johnny Thursday, 07 May 2015 04:19 PM

Real criminals are in government temporarily though. Hope this new ralities in SL will help to bring down corruption somewhat.

    Veekay Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:41 PM

what my3 doing is correct. He has just promised to make sure FCID not politicised with MR supporters

    Citizen Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:40 PM

There should not be political interference like it happened under the earlier regime but all those who robbed peoples wealth should be given life imprisonment. via DM Android App

    CLIVE Thursday, 07 May 2015 01:49 PM

MS should do that if the unit has been created unlawfully.

de silva Thursday, 07 May 2015 09:53 AM

If they want to stop these rogues want to safeguard the people who robbed this country, what is the use of YAHAPALANAYA.Hope president knows what he will do.

    pradeep Thursday, 07 May 2015 02:05 PM

Mr rajapakse has fraud case of an amount of 82 million in the infamous tsunami swindle,he cannot get away from that, that is not polityical interference, that would be corruption at its worst,he should not have been invitedfor a meeting it is definitely scandalous, shame on MR

Coming colours are not good Thursday, 07 May 2015 10:00 AM
