The chief suspect of the UNP MP T Maheswaran assassination was sentenced to death by Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksha
this morning.

The accused has been identified as Christopher Valentine.

Late T Maheswaran was the Colombo District United National Party (UNP) legislator and former Hindu Affairs Minister. He was shot dead at the Sri Ponnabala Vaneshwara Kovil in Kotahena on 1 January, 2008. The gunman who shot him was arrested when Maheswaran’s bodyguard returned fire and wounded him.

Well if the SL judicial system works without any hinderonce of the politicians this would have been done and dusted!!!!
I have a personal experionce, My cousin was killed in 1988 and the perpitraiters were sentence only last month!!!, The verdict a mere 18 months sentence for a LIFE taken!!!!!

Our judiciary system is a joke which is not funny any more. If such a high profile case took so long we can just imagine how long ordinary cases will take. Is it any wonder people now resort to their own form of instant justice??

Death sentence by Courts have been made a joke by JRJ Constitution, because it has to be approved by the Presidents but the Presidents have never appoved them. Not only that President can pardon them and appoint as a Justice of Peace

One information should be added here. The person killed is an LTTE member according to the records. But, the wife of the late Maheswaran Vijayakala once claimed in Parliament that his husband was killed by ......

commenting on our courts regading to land disputes,where many land dispute cases take as many as 10 to 15 years to be resolved by the courts as the judges keep posponing and posponing thus making people to keep paying and paying lawyers and court officials why are many many case of land disputes taking so long to resolve please try to finish these long standing cases as qiuckly as possible some cases are simple ones which can be easily solved.
