UNP National Youth Front President and Parliamentarian Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday that all arms and ammunition to destroy the LTTE were purchased during the previous UNP regime.

Speaking during the Western Province Convention of the UNP national youth front in Colombo, Mr Wijewardene said this was the reality though the UNP was accused of having a rapport with the LTTE.

He said the UNP did not have anything to do with the LTTE in the past and will not have anything to do with them in the future as well.

UNP national leader Ranil Wickremesinghetold the gathering that the joint opposition will introduce a system in this country where the policies won’t change when a new government comes to power.

Mr Wickremesinghe said the administration of the common candidate once elected would introduce a new culture in the country.

Mr. Wickremasinghe said he had no intention of making money after being elected to office as all his family members including his brothers were doing well economically.

He also pledged to create jobs for the youth of the country.

UNP Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake said youth members of the party would be given a role to play in the party. He said more youth should be given a chance to hold organizer posts in the party.

He said plans were afoot to sling mud at the UNP by pasting the LTTE label on the party.

He said a defamatory movie weeraya saha drohiya (Hero and traitor) had been shot to sling mud at the UNP. (Yohan Perera)
