A 23-year-old Sri Lankan man drowned while swimming at a Sharjah beach in defiance of police warnings, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Police divers plucked the body out of the water in Khan area and took it to the coroner for examination, the semi-official daily Al Ittihad said.

It said the man was swimming in an area where police had set up boards warning the public against going to the water because of strong currents.(24/7)
