Sri Lanka has asked UN Chief Ban Ki-moon not to interfere in its internal affairs and not to go ahead with the probe into alleged war crimes by its army against the defeated LTTE, amidst an international clamor by rights groups for an independent inquiry.

"...There is no justification legal or moral for this step (UN probe) to be taken at this time," Foreign Minister G L Peiris told PTI ahead of his maiden meeting with Ban today.

"Don't complicate matters at this stage.  It's not going to do any good.  It has the potential of doing real harm in a situation where the government of Sri Lanka, against overwhelming odds,  is trying to move the processes forward," he said.  (PTI)

Guys this is not to you to say that tamils are living better life, that should be state by tamils. As i am a tamil we don't live better life now. just a simple question , will the sinhala people like to live a life as tamils are now ...

    Why is SL hiding?

    Monday, 24 May 2010 05:47 PM

What does the government have to fear, if it doesn't have anything to hide?

    Monday, 24 May 2010 04:52 PM

Well said, professor. At last MR has appointed the proper person, for the proper job!

    Monday, 24 May 2010 11:11 AM

Seems Mr. Moon can't get the message. How many times he has been told to keep off. He has more serious issues he should be really paying attention.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:59 AM

certain racist tamils are greedy for a tamil only land from which sinhalese and muslims would be ethinically cleansed.
that is not what the majority of tamils want because the majority of tamils are living amongst the sinhalese. Machang

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:52 AM

Well said sir! We are now a proud nation! MR did not allow intervention at height of war & he wl not allow now! Do what u can ban & see how we respond! This is a united Srilanka that wl never fall now!!!

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:47 AM

I feel that this investigation by the UN should be carried in fairness to the Tamil civilians so that we can find out who are the culprits and then get the GOSLs name cleared.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:41 AM

So it's alright for the UN to fund development programs and provide funds for various govt missions, but it's wrong for them to investigate war crimes? If we want to be independant like that we should be financially independant as well. We are part of a global forum and we should reap the benefits as well as onsequences for our actions. That's the fairest way.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:39 AM

I didn't get it. You mean you are having misarable life after the LTTE is finished. ( That means you had better life before the war ended) ????

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:37 AM

.....Having a fear of LTTE thanks to the opposition and Tamil Diaspora !!!!

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:34 AM

Man cannot live on bread alone.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:30 AM

Ban Moon works against UN codes of conducts. Ask China please.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:40 AM

Mr Sec Gen, We had a bloody war, A bloody war for 30 years and its over now. Let us live peacefully now. If you really want war criminals please do arrest Bus, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Blair, Berlusconi, Aznar, Howard and that liar WMD ex chief Richard Butler. We may have differences with MR, we will never allow you to lay a finger on him.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:11 AM

What will the Tamils from the north and east tell you ???? that they are still....................

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:05 AM

Thats because we need Countries like Israel to first come clean with their war crimes. Why not them > cause they are supporting the west with their billions???

    Monday, 24 May 2010 10:00 AM

Last few months of the final stage, NO BOMBS WERE DROPED. Don't spread false stories !!!

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:59 AM

Gayan, Why we should allow them to interfere internal issues of an independent counytry?. We have overrun bloody terrorists group against all odds.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:58 AM

If any war crime taken place even, it for the betterment of millions of Tamils. Just come to North & East and ask from the people. They will tell.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:55 AM

Let us live alone. Now everybody including Tamils are living better life than earlier. It's getting better. So leave us alone,

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:55 AM

Very Good reply as a Sri Lankan

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:52 AM

If the Sri Lanka government did not engage in any war crimes, why is it so seriously opposing any foreign intervention to examine them?

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:51 AM

This is clear evidence of UN bias against a poor third world nation. Ban has no spine to bring charges against the US and UK. President Premadasa always said Might is not right.

President MR and the General Fonseka did the job well and if the west don't like it they can stick their noseS where the sun doesn't shine.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:51 AM

We agree that this is an internal issue. However Mr. Peries should understand when our actions were seen in the international community they would like to know on who we were bombing with the internationally collected bombs. Since the GOSL has upto date has not done an investigation whether a violation had taken place, then it is the duty of the UN to investigate of same.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:51 AM

No UN came to free us when we were running in fear of the blood thirsty terrorists. We had to solve our own problems. Now we leave in peace. Thanks to all helped us.

    Monday, 24 May 2010 09:50 AM

War is over. All sri Lankans including Tamil, Muslims & Sinhalese are happy. We do not have minorities in Sri Lanka. All are equal. Ban do not try to make more bucks by threatening Sri Lanka. You have definitely earned more money for "x" generations by threatening many countries. Stop this dirty game for god's shake. Tell us any one of good things you have done to this world.
