With the end of civil war and defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Sri Lanka has significant opportunity to transform the country, the US said today.
"We''ve said many times, it has a significant opportunity to transform the country, lift it above and beyond the recent conflict, and we certainly hope that the government will take advantage of it," the State Department spokesman, P J Crowley, said.
Crowley was responding to a question about allegations of human rights violations in Sri Lanka as reported in the media, with human rights organizations demanding international investigations into these allegations.
