A A A

The UNP has charged that Sri Lanka is facing an economic crisis as a result of the of mismanagement of the present government. Gampaha district UNP MP Ruwan Wijewardene, who topped the district’s preferential votes’ list at the general elections, told a news conference that the government is not in a position even to present the annual budget as a result.

“The government has to spend a lot of money in debt servicing.  They have obtained loans from the HSBC. There are a lot of expenses involved in the hedging deal. Therefore, we feel that the country is driven towards an economic crisis. People will feel the pinch in another four to five months time,” he said. (KB)

Right! So, what needs to be done? What's the strategy? Most people will be in denial, regarding the country's financial state, until it hits rock-bottom and becomes undeniable. Sri Lanka has been making one mess-up after another, thanks to poor leadership and naive voters.

so what is your idea expel the government...? UNP facing serious crisis now

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 06:05 PM

Help to clear up the mess in your own party before poking in to bigger things...

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 03:17 PM

Sri Lanka is not in a bad state economically.
Look at the Europeon Union nations that went broke / bankcrupt recently.. Iceland and now Greece, a few more on the brink of collapse.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 12:47 PM

It's all right ! Day by day , step by step we are getting used to the hardships.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 09:19 AM

One of Ranil's pet boys. These guys will completely destroy UNP. Oh! great old party.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 09:06 AM

4-5 months?. Already we feel the pinch.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 08:47 AM

Well there is hope now with war over and I find investment coming into country, lets waits and see what's going to happen. I probably would see a booming economy very soon.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 06:07 AM

Sore losers! I suppose they (UNP) can manage the country better. Why not begin with putting your own house in order. How can a party that cant even manage its own affairs in a democratic way or present its own election budget/spending records talk about mismanagement of others?

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 04:54 AM

If Sri Lanka has realized it is in economic crisis, then it can come out of it soon. Good signs are there. Let us wait and see what the new moves will be. Whether in the right direction or wrong..

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 04:38 AM

Headless Loser from UNP is commenting.

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 04:21 AM

come on we need a person like you for UNP

    Saturday, 01 May 2010 03:06 AM

Ruwan should now assert himself and make his presence felt like Sajith. He should not be passive like Rukman. He is going in the right direction - UNP must attack the weakpoint of the government - which will be the economy.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 11:26 AM

The opposition always have to say something negative. These are all lies. Lanka economy is doing good. There is pleanty of money flowing in.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:47 PM

Well, the bonds that the government sold recently, will soon be worth 'scrap.'

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:13 PM

THEY HAVE BEEN TELLING THIS FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:59 PM

Economy has frequently nothing whatever to do with the amount of money being spent, but with the wisdom used in spending it.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:17 PM

do not divert attention of the most important priority of UNP. We need to have a democratic constitution and democratic elections in the UNP. Ranil is destroying the UNP So keep quiet, without driving more UNP fellows away. May be this gene runs in the family.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 03:45 PM

It was a matter of time before the bubble burst . It is the citizen of the country who suffers and not the rulers.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 03:01 PM

What a lot of rubbish! This chap hardly knows about what is happening in his own party, he's coming to tell us about the country's economic situation. I wonder if anybody told him that the election is over.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 02:26 PM

This is the difference between UNP and SLFP. UNP has the brains and knowledge to manage the country's economy responsibly. You can see it in how intelligently all the UNPers talk- Akila, Ruwan, Sajith, Karu etc.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 01:48 PM

Presenting Budget is not required now they have almost 2/3 mandate to enjoy next 6 years. Economy has foreseen some signs of cricis but MP's are affulent they will not get affect so why BUDGET

    Friday, 30 April 2010 01:46 PM

Don't worry man. MR.R will show you within 2-3 years that Srilanka doesn't have to bend it's knees to West.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 12:48 PM

That is the reason for the govt to create unnecessary political issues to cloud the more urgent real problems.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 12:43 PM

are you living a fairy tale? Have read the economic data? have you gone around the country? Have you seen the rally in the stock market?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 12:26 PM

Empty vessels make a big noise!
