A A A

Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said on Thursday that Malaka Silva, the son of Minister Mervyn Silva who was wanted in connection with the assault on an Army major had not been arrested while he was at the Kelaniya Temple as the police would have felt that arresting him in the sacred precincts of the Kelaniya Temple was not proper.

“Police would have thought that arresting him in the presence of the Sacred Relics was not etiquette,” he said.

The minister was replying to a question by a journalist as to why the two special police teams that had been deployed to arrest Malaka Silva, had not arrested him when he was at the Kelaniya Temple.( Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)

    rumbunctious Friday, 14 September 2012 10:51 AM

So why don't they wait till he leaves the Temple and then arrest him?

    Malith Friday, 14 September 2012 04:41 PM

Keheliy, Do You get any kind of advice before you start addressing the media and Sri Lankan Citizens? I cannot believe a Minister can say stupid story like this thinking all others are fools like him. You know, its not you who should be blamed, its the dumb idiots who voted for a mutt head like you.

    sach Friday, 14 September 2012 10:54 AM

Punishing Mervin should be done by ppl bcos gov is protecting him. he should be publicly flogged, stripped naked and taken along the streets of colombo and kelaniya while ppl can spit on his body and finally publicly executed. His body should be dumped in sea. I have never said such things to anybody but seeing what happens in SL i truly want to see this happen.

    IVJ Thursday, 13 September 2012 11:16 PM

If Keheliya has a total breakdown and accidentally tells the truth, he might admit that all the Verminous Silvas are above the law, decreed by their and Keheliya's "Lokka!"

Independent Observer Thursday, 13 September 2012 11:46 PM

Surely , if the Police wanted , this guy could have been arrested on his way home .

This so called minister gives a RIDICULOUS explanation as to why police failed to arrest criminal silva's criminal son. I don't understand why journalists don't ridicule this man during the news conference.

Hey fellow Sri Lankans, if you commit a crime go to a RELIGIOUS place so that you won't get arrested according to this dump minister's theory.

A soldier who fought for the country gets brutally assaulted by a thug, the thug goes to temple and is saved. The poor soldier is in hospital and waiting for justice. The Goverment minister makes such a idiotic explanantion.

Mervyn Silva must be proud of his son. He is behaving just like other sons of great leaders. Once, Saddam Hussein's son Uday beat up the entire Iraqi Football team when they failed to qualify for the World Cup. His sister and husband were executed by him because they tried to defect to the West. Malaka has a long way to go to come even close to Uday.

    erodosi Friday, 14 September 2012 12:51 AM

An excuse to say you have no backbone. If you think people believe the bullshit you dole out everyday, you need to get your head examined after the accident jumping from balconies to meet ........

We are been taken for a ride like a bunch of idiots, following these these politicians like a flock of Sheep..

Prasanna Fernando Friday, 14 September 2012 05:58 AM

Is Mervyn a true friend of the govt? If so why he does things to tarnish the image of the govt? Mr President you are being fooled by this man.

    Gundappa Friday, 14 September 2012 06:01 AM

Rambukwella is a greaat apologist for the government. If this moron son of minister mervyn decides to take a 6 months break from mayhem and stay put in in the temple, the great apologist would say that since the moron son is in the process of becoming a bikkhu, he will not be prosecuted

    j Friday, 14 September 2012 11:45 AM

This man is talking through his underwear

Rubert Vanderkoon Friday, 14 September 2012 06:39 AM

    Zeus Friday, 14 September 2012 01:55 AM

When did the police have etiquetts! A criminal should be arrested where ever he is. I wonder if the same rule applies to the other criminals. Dont take the population for fools! you may be one but not the majority.

Goni Eluwa Friday, 14 September 2012 06:44 AM

    Keheliya kelinawa. ha ha.

    Gayan Friday, 14 September 2012 06:45 AM

So he means to say that criminals can avoide arrest by being at temple or sacred area

    Jo Friday, 14 September 2012 12:02 PM

Then why the Government arrested the christian cleargies for helping LTTE?

    dham Friday, 14 September 2012 01:42 AM

Reason is this son belongs to the most important asset to the government who wash dirty cloths at any time.. ha ha why not give real reason.

    kirala Friday, 14 September 2012 06:37 AM

So, when an arrest warrant has been issued on a criminal, there are two ways to avoid being arrested.

    1) Claim he cannot remember what happened.
    2) Go to a temple.

    SL.. Friday, 14 September 2012 06:51 AM

shame on you Mr Keheliya.....bloddy joker...

So he never came out of the temple? Is he going to be there permanently?

    katie Friday, 14 September 2012 06:49 AM

Dear Mr Rambukwella - dont try to cover up. If it had been an ordinery citizen, but now he would have been caught, tortured or maybe even dead so why the discrimination. The rule should be the same for all be it a minister's son or the ordinary citizens. Wake up Mr Rambukwella and speak the truth.

    GOOBAYAI Friday, 14 September 2012 02:15 AM

what a lame statement ! now all criminals can find refuge in so called sacred places and evade arrests wow !, couldnt the CID arrest him out side the sacred place or is that not possible too ? why not tie him to a tree first as per the keleniya state punishment policy ? ....anyway your statement endorses your ignorance as usual

    Eladena Friday, 14 September 2012 01:52 AM

shehan jayawardene Friday, 14 September 2012 02:25 AM

    ZScore Friday, 14 September 2012 07:47 AM

Despite all the obvious lies and corruption, people will continue to vote for this government. Why wasn't his vehicle followed and the arrest made after he left the temple? Maybe they turned the Silva residence into a sacred place? We may all laugh calling this bullshit, but the sad part is that 60% of the local population will believe this and hail the police.

What a Joke.. This is how Ministers talk in Sri Lanka. What a fool. So all the criminals in the Country should go to Kalaniya temple or Sri Dalada Maligawa and they will not be arrested? Prabakarayan should have stayed in Jaffna Kovil and he was not going to be arrested? Even the police is laughing. He is guarded by Police and Police is looking for him.. Ok, now what's the problem? GO ARREST HIM...

From all the comments one can see that people are totally disgusted abot this Malaka fellow's matter - and are now gradually losing faith in the government - including the President who has so far been held in high esteem by the people. The President and Mr Gotabhaya must immediately intervene and order that this Malaka fellow is arrested without any further delay and without any interference from his father, and get him locked up for good once and for all. I have been an ardent supporter of Mahinda Rajapakse - even before he became President - but I am gradually losing my faith in him and his government. This Malaka fellow's incident could be a turning point for the President and his government for his lack of action against this thug. I ernestly request the President and his brother Mr Gotabhaya to immediately order the arrest of this Malaka fellow and his other thugs and imprison them without bail.

Oh I forgot the employment of the family just to trot out stupid lies, not bad for a idiot polevaulter to be making a million Rupees a month. The president got the relics to accumilate merit for all the thuggery and stealing that is going on as never before. Even the colonial rulers did not steal the way the Rajapakses do.The vote base for these hoodlums is the rural villages who live in a time warp and do not know how to use their vote , and the people do not ever refer to WE THE PEOPLE and the politicians are there to represent the people

Usually the police when they cannot find the accused arrest the mother or the father. Why not arrest the father?
