With President Mahinda Rajapaksa taking over most of the Ministries under his belt the opposition Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) feels 80-90 percent of the budget will be proposals of the President himself.

JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka made this observation during a press briefing in Colombo this morning. (KB)

If JVP opposed budget in 2007 Prabha will be still alive and LTTE will be dancing on your front yard.

All preceeding comments are on the ball

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 04:48 PM

    Insecure.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 03:58 PM

What you are saying is not clear. But the objective is clear.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 01:58 PM

yes, Maybe Wimal betrayed the JVP. But this country would have been betrayed to the LTTE if that government lost the budget and UNP came to power. So Wimal in that case did the best thing for the country in getting the JVP to vote with the government on that budget. Intelligently understand situations...

Hi Ayanthi, Let me point out to you that almost a two thirds of the country endorsed him and his policies in the last presidential election. People have spoken. Respect the decision of the people.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 01:45 PM

I can't understand why most of these commentators fail to realise what would have happen to the war against LTTE if government defeated in the budget. I also agree to the fact that the way of handling the economy by MR not good. But the decision not to defeat the government at the budget is absolutly correct.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 10:57 AM

UNper and LTTE supports are in sync when it comes to this issue.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 06:15 AM

Not suprising at all. After all he thinks he owns Sri Lanka and the King of the country. What a lost soul. Pathetic.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 09:57 AM

If the proposals are viable and benefits the country as a whole, no matter if it is from president or any other. There is no harm if he retains certain ministries if that can prove more efficient.

Well, which political party do you think will not touch the wealth of the country for their individual benefit?

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 08:00 AM

Yes, the JVP should have opposed that budget in 2007 but what really happened is that "Katussa" Gel Wimal took the JVP for a ride by asking them to abstain, since even at that time he was clearly in the payroll of the Rajapakses. He is the culprit who betrayed the JVP.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 07:51 AM

    Real experts running the country...not.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 07:43 AM

when president gives ministries to other ministers they say cabinet is biggest in the world. But when MR try to minimize the number of ministers, they say MR keep the all ministries and so he keep power to him to do what he want. These JVPers are the most pathetic loosers in Sri Lanka now. All they know is to tell lies to hide their miserable situation

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 07:26 AM

First two comments are absolutely right.
Not only MR is taking most of the ministries also countries wealth and he certainly things that he is the sole owner of the country. This govt is a total crap and there is no credibility whatsoever.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 07:22 AM

This land is my land and my family land , from Point Pedro to Donra ... sings MR. God bless the people ...

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 06:59 AM

When the JVP had an opportunity to oppose the budget in 2007 they avoided the issue by abstaining, and thereby currying favour with the President. Had they voted against the budget on that day everything would have been different today. The JVP themselves would have been in a better position today. Too late comrades, you had your chances..
