The government has decided to install jamming devices inside prisons island-wide to prevent inmates from using mobile phones inside the premises.
Prisons reforms Minister D.E.W Gunasekera, speaking at a function in Colombo today noted that the prisoners, including drug dealers carry out their crimes even while in prison using mobile phones which is illegal. (S.A.J)

Bugging would be more useful than jamming

The best solution is to bring internal laws within the prisons where an inmate caught with such illegal objects as mobile phones will have their sentences increased by 25%. Costly jamming devices are good for lining the pockets of Ministers.

Already delayed. Very good move. That would help to minimise the crimes more than 50%. Issue is, how the prison officials use mobiles?. They will have to come out of the premisses or roadside?.
