Clearly a true victory of the people! The last president came promising to reduce powers but ended up increasing them. I thank the President and the Prime Minister for this historical step towards a true democratic country.

This is a historic victory for president Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe and all other right thinking individuals and political activists. Hope the bill pass through the 3rd reading as well.

Sarath Weerasekara is the only man in the parliament with a back bone. All the others are boot lickers.

But the Opposition unfortunately in their self interest wanted the clause preventng crossovers deleted. They said it was a right of an MP but the rights of all those who voted are negated by a crossover. Usual lopsided argument of opposition..

    Where? in the front???

    G.M. Jayawardena Thursday, 30 April 2015 11:34 AM

Definitely Sarath Weerasekara will be remembered in the very near future as the only broad minded person that was in the parliament. There is no benefit to the country of having a powerless president but a waste of public money.
