In Singapore, if a minister fails to carry out his duties, next day he will be out. In Sri Lanka, failure to fulfill duties is not a problem as long as he licks the boots on the leader.
Also, recently on opposition MP was sacked by the party for his extra marital relationship. In Sri Lanka, one quality of a MP is indecency, filthy mouth, etc etc....

Most of MPs in Sri Lanka are not pass G.C.E. (A/L). Sri Lanka should introduce education qualification for MPs. I think G.C.E (A/L) - Sri Lanka/London is enough. All most all job in Sri Lanka needs education qualification except politicans. This is fundermental right violation of other people. These MPs get a salary more than doctor, university lecture and a teacher. But, these professionals has higher level of education than MPs.Minister Navin Dissanayake we appreciated you, you accept that ministerial corruption in Sri Lanka. In adition, Ministers waste money of people which can built new universities, hospital and many school. President knows this curruption. But he keep silent.

Does this man have no shame? Promised 2500 rupee increase for the poor government servant was not approved. But raise the salary to a million rupees for the ministers!!! And for what reason? To stop them stealing!!! Can you believe it. Even now they get everything from petrol, telephone, gas and electricity, vehicles and all other expenses free.
He forgot to mention that if a minister is corrupt in Singapore they would have sent him to jail , not increase the salary! And the government servants there are paid half a million rupees! How much do our people get???

He should first provide his qualifications to Department of Management centre and National Salaries and carder commission and ask how much a person drawing a salary for the same qualification in state sector and then he should talk about to reduce or increase. People are unaware what is he doing for people..

Absolute stupid statement. To prevent corruption the way is to make sure any one who is found guilty is put behind bars not to ever resurface again. If the head of the state is of this view, it is so easy. Today what is happening is a high profile politician is NEVER locked up.....knowing that they plunder the country !!!

Peace that Singapore now enjoys did not happen by chance, but by pure effort and deliberate policies.
These include ensuring equality, meritocracy and setting up institutions like the Presidential Council for Minority Rights and the Presidential Council for Religious Harmony to protect those groups' interests. (News Asia)

Present cabinet of ministers is a set of 3rd grade. When the Thai govt . is donating $ 10 billions to the I,M.F. Our ministers are asking for $ 1billion from the I.M.F
EXPORT OR PERISH Lalith .s motto.
Who is this Navin anyway and minister Of what ?

To compare our of rule of law with that of Singapore is a joke. We let go murderers from prison and people who has contempt of court conviction with a presidential pardon. See the bio data of Singapore Ministers. Not just brief less lawyers all round like in Sri Lanka.

If Navin is comparing the salary of a Singapore Minister with ours, then he should compare everything else like discipline, honesty, fairplay, absence of nepotism & racialism etc. Also, the standard of living of other citizens in the country too should be compared.

Most of MPs can not work as clerck in a office. Most of SLFP minster can not speak in English. Some of them even can not give good speak in Sinhala. How many MPs pass A/L ? Why their salary increase? Just do bully? Cut down number of MPs and minister post same as before 1971. Leader is not educated but he is real fox. How we expect his MPs should educate more than him? We like uneducated people without talent.Hence, they lick the boots on the leader. Leader is too happy.

There is no limit to greed of these politicians: even if their salaries are increased tenfold, they will still get involved in corrupt deals and earn commissions. When the Minister talks of salaries of Ministers in Singapore, he has conveniently forgotten to mention the average salaries of other employees in Singapore.

But least bothered or concerned about the public who are suffering and undergoing many hardships. I feel Bandulla Gunawardene should conduct classes for these rogues how to live with RS 7500.00 so that they should not ask for any salary increase in future.
