Import of potatoes suspended

The import of potatoes has been suspended from midnight today because of the increase in local harvest, Finance Ministry said.

The ministry said the decision was taken to protect local farmers by ensuring a stable price for their harvest.

    we should change our food pattern. truly we can get potatoes as our staple food for a few months. Sathosa can reduce the potato prices. 1Kg 60Rs. people will buy more potato than rice.

    This was a wrong move. It antagonises suppliers. Surplus produce should drive down prices, with the minimum economcal price set by the government.
