UNP Kurunegala District MP Dayasiri Jayasekara speaking to the Daily Mirror online today said that the authorities should have investigated the allegations he made in Parliament on Thursday instead of ordering him out of the house. "During my speech I specifically brought up the thuggery and intimidation that was taking place in Mulleriyawa. I showed them photographs of shootings that happened during the run up to the elections but they ignored all of this and we have lost a political leader today," he said. Jayasekara was removed from the house on Thursday by parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer who was at the chair for making inflammatory remarks.

He further went on to add that, "The crux of my speech was that there is no rule of law in this country. Thugs who are close to politicians have with them illegal weapons and this incident was due to the use of these weapons. There are gangs that operate with the ruling party politicians and todays incident showed the danger that these weapons that are used by politicians could bring," he said.

Jayasekara went on to note that the weapons that were used during the shooting were not legal weapons that were given to the policeman who were with the parliamentarians. "A policeman on duty would never open fire when there is an argument. The reason behind the shooting clearly must have been drunken-ness and thugs who were armed," he said. He also stated that, "Both Duminda Silva and Bharatha Lakshman are leaders of the people and its sad that they have to go through this predicament, at the end of the day it’s their families who will suffer the most. What we are calling for is the proper implementation of the rule of law. If that happens there is no way an incident of this sort will take place," he said.

On Thursday October 6, 2011, when Jayasekara was speaking in Parliament about the thuggery in Mulleriyawa, his speech was expunged and he was sent out of the chamber. (HF)

This is not only a sad situation but also bring so called tarnishing image of both the government and Sri Lankans in general.

Keep doing this, it will be the end of the Ruling alliance that brought demise to themselves. SHAME on the Police and all rulers.

Pemal Herath Sunday, 09 October 2011 07:23 AM

You reap what what you sow. As Calistus J aptly put it, the Govt. is confronted by the monster it created to subdue and silence the people; so that it can reign unchallenged. This sure is a country like no other......... (Remarkable similarities with Zimbabwe though!)

Theodore Lambert Sunday, 09 October 2011 01:07 AM

Well said DJ. AZWAR should be sent to Children's home. Keep up your good work.

    Ravi Monday, 10 October 2011 05:04 AM

very correct. I was asking my self the same question. How do these so called unofficial bodyguards of these politicians get weapons to their hands. It is sad to see our people have not developed

    azath Sunday, 09 October 2011 01:46 AM

Correct, Any good is not tolerated in our parliament.

    Appa Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:00 AM

U r a bright, clever, straight forward politician to admire by all the so called Parliamantarins and the we, SRILANKANS. What ever the previledges u hv in the Parliament use it meaningfully. V back u 4 good.

    RDF Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:44 PM

How can you tell both these goons are leaders of people. Please remember the silent majority of the people are not goons. Also please remember most in parliment today are not leaders.

    CW Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:09 AM

Thuggery is not acceptable. What about the people who gave all Island JP posts to notorious criminals like Gonawala Sunil et al? I can not remember his name. I think it atarts with R & Surname starts with W? Probably Dayasiri might be able to help me. Thugs have been running some politician and parties for the past so many years. You all politicians are responsible for that. How may positions has DJ taken ith past few years? How can people trust these politicians. I think he was trown out of the parliament for other reason, Some of them even have sided with LTTE for their own survival and political gain. Who made the country lawless. Whao gave the Police 2 weeks of holiday in 1977? We all have very short memories.

    joeseph Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:40 PM

You are coccect sir, agree with you

    D.Lokuge Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:13 AM

W ell said sir, Thuggery is the rule of the day,how ever much you try to convince the rulers there is no point because they are not ignorant, but most of them are in it, as it is it looks like that by the end of the present term of office of these rulers the country will be a ' glorius hell ' not the wander of Asia.

    Chaminda Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:53 PM

    Absolutely True!!

    Bakamoona Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:28 AM

May be you ppl are not aware, fire crackers were lit in Colombo when this incident happened !

    Fayad Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:58 PM

    very true !!!

    wins Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:56 PM

100% correct Dayasiri. Azwar must be thrown out of Parliament. He must sent to Elders Home.

    krishna Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:16 AM

Why you don`t know that they were deaf.

    Academic Sunday, 09 October 2011 02:44 AM

Not nice to say this... but I've heard a story where some people used an ingenious method to destroy a band of monkeys who troubled a village. They selected a place in the forest, kept large amount of toddy and other liquor and lot of weapons. The monkeys came... got themselves drunk, started fighting and...viola... weapons flashed.. and the problem gone... I think this incident shows that we can use a similar to get rid of the so called beloved leaders of ours. Goons+Parliament +alcohol +weapons = redemption for us!

    Emsee Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:15 PM

Keep up the good work Mr DJ. We need more voices like yours within and without parliament.

    SHANKAR Saturday, 08 October 2011 04:58 PM

    Well Said

    Thomas Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:00 PM

    I TOLD YOU SO?

    anu Sunday, 09 October 2011 09:12 AM

Very true man..Azwar is not a suitable person to be in the chair of parliment...Its a shame how he rejected the photographs brought up by Dayasiri saying they were marked by a pen...Azwar should take the responsibility of yesterdays incident and should resign from the parliament immediately.

    Roshan Sunday, 09 October 2011 09:32 AM

It is sad to see these things happen in open day light !! The blame and the responsibility clearly lies on the shoulders of the top leadership of the country !! If the leader ignores and does nothing to discipline and punish his henchman who run a mock that will be looked as a incentive to the wrongdoers.

    MahaRaja Sunday, 09 October 2011 09:33 AM

Big mouth ot not .. what theman sad is correct. Unless you live in another planet

Kandy Boy Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:18 PM

DJ Please stop fishing in trouble water. We knew that you have a big mouth.

Kattai Jeya Sellar Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:55 PM

Our country is heading towards a crime country. What can I say. God can only help us.

Sena Fernando Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:33 PM

Your speach was excellent that day in the parliment.Lot of places of your speach removed due to the truth. Most of Sri Lankan fools don't understand that we are runing in to the danger. We are blind. We are deft & We are fools.Don't cry Sri Lanka.

civilized countrymen Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:00 PM

Even I am not UNP supporter, I Take off Hat for you Mr. Dayasiri. Exactly today all civilized countrymen willing to have the environment what you are said.

Vinod samaraweera Sunday, 09 October 2011 10:03 AM

Guys like you and present junta leadership have brought thugs and criminals into the political system in Sri Lanka.

    Ravi Saturday, 08 October 2011 05:58 PM

    good

    Marzook Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:17 PM

Is it not that the rot of disregard to law and order nurtured by the Govt. itself is now spilling over and beginning to stink all over the country and we are now heading for a different conflict in the South of the country.

    jaka Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:18 PM

yes DJ...your last Thursday speech was clear and brave...

    AA Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:32 PM

This country needs people like you to voice the truth

    KALUM Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:32 PM

sir , you must be mistaken , one in the ICU is not a leader he is A thug , drug peddler , rapist , murder n a thief

    manu Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:26 PM

all parliment is a mess ... no use

    Mahen Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:14 PM

Like all other things in this country this incident and even Baratha and what happened to him will be forgotten in two weeks time and things will be back to "NORMAL*. Sadly even in the opposition there are very few voices like Dayasiri who will speak out . This is a good lesson for all the thugs.

Calistus Jayatilleke Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:37 PM

The culture of violence created and promoted by the government members themselves to intimidate the voters and oppositon members has boomeranged on themselves with one death and another near-death. Dayasiri is absolutely right but those close to the government for personal gains do not want exposures of this nature. Agree with Kalum: the guy in the ICU can hardly be called a "political leader". He is a real thug and drug dealer. It had been rumoured that the government members were going to use thugs to disrupt the elections for CMC if they find a trend towards an opposition victory. So this could be it with fatal results.

    humanr8ts Saturday, 08 October 2011 06:42 PM

now u knw those marks r not the "bolpoint pen marks" itz a real one.....good work DJ...we r always with u...keep it up..!!!
