A suspect in the Rizana Nafeek alleged human trafficking case is to be produced for an identification parade on August 30 on the orders of the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

The CID produced the two suspects Shahul Hameed Abdul Latheef of 178, Shafie Nagar, Muttur and Pakeer Mohamed Wajurdeen of 03, Mosque Lane, Kollupitiya, Colombo 3, before the Colombo Chief Magistrate  Rashmi Singappuli and complained that the suspects had aided and abetted to forge documents to send the  house maid Rizana Nafeek to Saudi Arabia.

The CID submitted that they initiated investigations into the incident on a complaint made by the Foreign Employment Bureau  of Battaramulla complaining that media reports had alleged that  Rizana Nafeek  who was sentenced to be beheaded  by a Saudi Court  in May 30, 2007 allegedly  for killing an infant  was a minor at the time of her departure. Therefore to investigate how she had obtained a passport while being a minor.

The CID stated that according to the statements of Rizana’s mother Seyedu Ahamadu Raseena of Main Street Shafie Nagar and perusing the birth certificate submitted by her, Rizana was a minor at the time of her departure for employment in Saudi Arabia.

However on perusing the documents tendered to the immigration to obtain the passport  had revealed that she was a major and further investigation found that the documents were forged ones.

The CID also said that according to the statement given by owner of Omar Travels of 40/ 03/ 01, First Maligakanda Lane, Colombo,  who sent Rizana Nafeek  for employment,  she was introduced to the agency by Wajurdeen and one Salam, who were known to them as sub agents and they  had collected Rs.12,000 from the agency  as  their commission.

The agent had further alleged that Shahul Hameed Abdul Latheef who came to the agency introduced himself as the father of  Rizana Nafeek .

The CID said the suspects had forged the birth certificate and the National Identity Card to obtain the passport and to remand them till August 30 as the investigations were not over and further to produce the first suspect Latheef for an identification parade.

The Magistrate remanded the suspects till August 30 and ordered the Police to produce the first suspect for an identification parade. (T. Farook Thajudeen)

get the innocent girl home first???

Yes, whey did the parents permit her to go ? No action against them? The point is, since things turned bad, all are putting the blame on the agency. If things had worked out right, then all would have live happily with the money the girl would have brought.

This is a bit strange: are we to believe that her Birth Certificate and ID were forged or altered without the knowledge of either her or her parents.

This is getting ugly now. Better suspend all investigations and concentrate on getting the poor girl out first. This investigation could spoil her chances if she has any.
