House maid commits suicide

The 33-year-old woman was identified as Sandya Premni of Moneragala district about 300 km from Colombo. It is unknown on which day the reported suicide took place.

“The incident took place some 150 km from Buraidah on the Madinah-Qassim highway,” a diplomat from the embassy told Arab News. “The maid, seated on the right side of the back seat, opened the rear door and jumped from the vehicle.”

According to embassy records, Premni arrived in the Kingdom in 2009 and had remained with her original sponsor. Her sponsor reportedly said there were no issues with the housemaid and she was doing her work diligently.

The diplomat, who did not want to be identified, said the sponsor — who was also not identified — said the maid had received a call from Sri Lanka and was distressed that her husband back home had taken another woman in the village.

Qassim police investigated and deemed the woman’s death a suicide.

The body is at a hospital in Buraidah. The diplomat said the body would be repatriated on completion of formalities.

If you watch any Saudi Tele- drama you will notice that the role of a Housemaid is always acted by Sri Lankan .Our country has positioned itself as a House Maid exporting country as opposed to Skilled Labour. Its high time we bring our woman back home and prevent them from further abuse or death from the Arrogant Arabs, especially Saudis and Kuwaitis

She had been working since 2009 so there has not been any problem all this beacuse of her husband back home had taken another woman in the village.This type of issue is sensitive in villages than city so there is no doubt this would have led to a suicide.
