Three jailors, who were taken hostage by a group of LTTE suspects last evening, were rescued in a joint Army-STF and Police operation a short while ago, official sources said.

They said that a section of the prisoners at the Vavuniya prison have been transferred to the Anuradhapura prison, soon after the rescue was successfully carried out.

Yesterday evening, LTTE suspects had taken three jailers hostage in protest after three of their cadres were transferred to the Boossa prison following a court order given four days ago.(Romesh Madushanka)
