Train services on main lines were disrupted as a result of engineers, engine drivers and guards reporting late for work after the New Year holidays, the Railway Department said.

The train services along the coastal belt, the main line and the Puttalam line were affected.

Steps are being taken to bring back the service to normal.

What a lame excuse. Didn't the railways department foresee this? Where was the backup ?

Typical mentality of our people.. If it is work you always come late.. if it is a party or a politician comes into to the work place then we come hours early.

What a waste..Sri Lanka has too many holidays..our buddhists are the laziest in the world

Late? It is not a Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian or atheist issue. It is cultural, and this endemic lateness affects the entire society. I would agree, however, that the supervisors might anticipate the tardiness and TRY to avert it. But, you don't change 2,500 years of lassitude in a day.
