The Court ruled that Dr. Wasantha Kumara Gamage was exposed to radiation due to the negligence of the defendant medical authorities. Therefore a sum of Rs. five million was to be paid to the medical officer together with interest from the year 2002.

Thank you, Dr. Gamage! Though you are disabled, you have been ABLE to open the eyes of the judge. This is certainly a landmark judgment and should be taken as a precedent to redress other forms of negligence, in the health sector.
