Muslims in the East are currently engaged in a harthal campaign against the inflammatory video that has sparked an uproar throughout the world.

Our reporter said that residents of Samanthurai, Kalmunai, Nindavur and Nachchimadu are currently participating in the protest, burning tires and effigies of the US President.

However, no Police presence was visible at the locations of protest.

And we have every right to criticize the deluded followers of islam, you know the people who protest over a low-budget movie and do not protest when ancient statues are demolished or people are beheaded in the name of their religion. Hal, I agree that many muslims are reacting in a very wrong way over this film all around the world. But such reactions are coming from a small sub-section of the total muslim population of the world. Even in Sri Lanka the number of muslims participating in these activities would be less than 2% of the total muslims in the country. Therefore, please do not try to show your hatred in your comments and include the whole community.If you are intelligent enough to analyse a problem you will choose your words carefully

An extremely unnecessary and unislamic act of Muslims to give popuarity to a low-budget insulting film. Protests and harthals are unislamic way of dealing with such issues. Muslims can hold public lectures and distribute reading materials to increase awareness of the fact.

Ridiculous! non of this makes sense anymore. Even if the video is offensive (Although I found it to be purely 'Stupid' and a cheap piece of nonsense) I don't see why we need to have harthal in SL. Plus, the video was uploaded by a certain individual. In a democratic society freedom of speech is pivotal no matter how it may offend another person's view point. I think it's time people realize this and try not to over react in the name of "Islam".
