Harin Fernando, the UNP chief minister aspirant of Uva, who polled the highest preferential votes, is to be appointed the deputy national organiser of the UNP on Sunday (28), UNP sources revealed.

This appointment follows a decision taken by the national leader of the party and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to include Harin Fernando in the party’s national politics.

An official communique about the appointment was to be issued on the same day.

Following in the footsteps of former President late J.R. Jayawardene and Kurunegala district MP Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Harin Fernando was also one who gave up an MPs post and contested a Local Council election. (Sujith Mangala de Silva)

Congrats! But all in vain and a lost course if UNP does not seriously come down from its high horse and start discussions for a common opposition candidate - the one way MR can be beaten for sure. Talk of 'Nearly', 'Almost' won after being pig-headed is stupid, missed opportunity in 20 yrs and a sell-out of its supporters.

Yes Harin Fernando is a talented young Politician. He can take up any challenge and be a victor. Old guys including Ranil should leave the party and let the young bullets to rule the nation.

First of all if UNP wants prosperity - Sir Ranil, please quit politics and retire.

Kiris Baba Amaray Friday, 26 September 2014 01:53 PM

Not the Deputy National Organizer, He should be the Chief National Organizer. Am I correct?

Dear young politicians, we recognize your strength, but use all your energies for the development of the country, whether you are in the ruling party or in the opposition. You have been given a huge mandate. Don't go behind characters seeking power for which your people have not been voted.

Set an example for others to follow!!

If Ranil genuinely wants to appreciate Harin, he should be made the national qrganiser, not the Deputy.
