The government has urged all media institutions in the country to refrain from publishing news that could create disharmony among various religious groups.

The Government Information Department said that “rumours and misinterpretations have been spread on an incident occurred in Aluthgama yesterday.”

“These kinds of rumours could not be approved of and against the ethics of media,” it said.

While recalling that spreading wrong information was illegal, the department asked the general public to refrain from spreading rumours.   (LSP)
