he UNP charged today that the government was carrying out work secretly on the delimitation of wards to conduct the local government elections under a new system even without passing necessary legislation in Parliament.

UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake told media that District Secretaries had been informed unofficially to do the basic work in this respect. As a result, He also urged the government to maintain transparency and accountability when introducing the new electoral system.

“We had preliminary talks with the government and put forward our proposals. The Bill is expected to be discussed at the Parliamentary Consultative Committee now. Even before it is passed in the House, the government has started work on delimitation. We have received information now. This is a secret operation,” he charged. (KB)

Just charging and shouting won't help. As the opposition take some concrete action, if what you say is going to affect the general public in someway!

It is the right of the opposition to highlight the irregularities as they see and it is the duty of the Government to come up with explanations. Let's hope this happens.

Well.. might as well just give a walk over and save the election costs!!!.. these guys are no hoper's... its sad that modern day has such a feeble opposition and look at what the cry for.. i think they should take a leaf out of Mr. Sajith Premadasa book and atleast start planning for the future and get involved in developmental work than to make a noise for everything when they know that nothing has come to their favour in the last 6 years!!
