A demonstration had been organised near the parliamentary complex to protest and vilify Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake on her way to the House to appear before the Select Committee probing charges against her.

The Opposition charged that the government had shamelessly mobilised slum dwellers and taxi drivers to vilify the Chief Justice in this manner.

UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, who spoke during the committee stage debate, charged that these slum dwellers had been brought to Jayanthipura Junction to stage this protest from the Peliyagoda area. The UNP MP also charged that lunch was served to these protesters from the parliamentary canteen under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Agriculture.

“The Peliyagoda Mayor nicknamed Kane mile has brought these people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga and UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake also raised questions of privilege on the grounds that they were inconvenienced on their way to attend yesterday’s parliamentary sittings by these protesters.

“An MP should have unhindered access to Parliament on sitting days. We were obstructed on the way by these protesters,” he said.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa  agreed to look into the matter. (KB,YP)

Ungrateful regime behaves disgracefully against opponents -
a). Gratitude shown to General SF for liberating country
    from terrorists was jail term.
b). CJ for upholding law is impeachment hearings.
c). Arms buyer for terrorists KP buys freedom with loot. No
    charges for arming LTTE.
d). Sri Lankan Airways Chairman with undeclared foreign
    exchange. No legal action taken.
e). EPF/ETF monies squandered in loss making shares,
Greek bonds at loss, CPC hedging deals and inferior
crude oil purchases - All involved are freely roaming.
    etc, etc, etc, ...

Then under a UNP govt.you will allow these kind of allegation to keep lull. Then we do not vote for UNP again because it is useless. Jayasekera this shows the powers if MR's govt. We'll continue with him for ever. You all will have to languish in the parliament uttering nonsense. Because you few are elected by foolish UNP'ers in this country.

We should remeber something. Injustice judgement for the justice case will not work always. When affected people suffer for the injutice judgement for some benefits, God always not be patience. So the trial is going on and its a God creation. why your guys are going to supress this. Let them also get a good learn and lession at least after we can see their judgement for the cases as to see at least they got fear from this impeachment motion enquiry..!

Gutter politics is ruining Serendibity, of Sri lanka , tourists gropu who witnessed the same said in disgust. If government is genuine in its charges, it should use the Attorney General to do the needful by filing charges against CJ in appropriate courts of Law.

Why only have unhindered access to roads for MPs. What a stupid statement. As for the protesters yes, they were the goons from Kalaniya.

    Mason Wednesday, 05 December 2012 04:45 AM

This regime is shameless. Their activities since inception amply proves this. They want to stick on to power heedless of what we or the world says of their obnoxious ways and means.
It sad to say that although they are drunk with power now it would be lost sooner or later. Who will prop them up then.

Harsha Ravi Wednesday, 05 December 2012 05:01 AM

Cj's Fate is on the sky. at least she will learn from this how painful when we order for injutice judgement for cases. How the blood pressure is going high when thinking about the injustice judgement. So now C'J's judgement is on the hands of God and as well as with pawl paksa family. So enjoy now..you will be learn from this

    Absolute TRUTH

Impartial guy Wednesday, 05 December 2012 05:00 AM

Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa, he always says that he will look into the matter. But he never took action against government MPs. Government organize protest campaign and protesters are fed with government and President's brother who is the Speaker says he will look into the incident. We do not see any difference between impeachment probe by PSC and Speakers assurance to look into the matter. One of these days an impeachment motion will be brought against the Speaker.

    Fazal Wednesday, 05 December 2012 05:06 AM
