The UNP said today, that the government is just like the Norochcholai power plant which was built with low quality spare parts and also that the government comprises of Ministers who do low quality work.

“If this Norochcholai power plant was operational for one day it remained closed down for a month. Today, power cuts are imposed throughout the country. What the government said when power plants were opened is contradictory to what they say today.  So the people say the government is just like the Norochcholai power plant", UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka told media in Colombo today.

Speaking on the topic of education he said the government had a downward policy on education. The government promised to make Sri Lanka the knowledge hub of Asia but how the government is going to achieve it by closing down universities, is yet to be seen.

“Today the universities are closed down: students and lecturers have taken to the streets to ensure their rights but this government and the Higher Education Minister have taken this issue very easy. Just like for other issues the government has sent the Economic Development Minster forward to resolve the education issue as well. Question papers are full of errors: results are confused. So the government is going to make Sri Lanka the knowledge hub in Asia by doing these things!”

He further said the government was clever at sweeping issues under the carpet rather than resolving them. They have proved this through their approaches. The government thinks that it is a panacea to appoint committees for every issue. (Ajith Siriwardana)

    Minister Monday, 27 August 2012 10:26 AM

    Gregory Monday, 27 August 2012 10:41 AM

Pot calling the kettle black...? Get rid of your leader for life and his lackeys and then just maybe you could win back the confidence of the people

    Cynic Monday, 27 August 2012 10:27 AM

I suggest that we re-name it Mahinda-Ranil Lakwijaya Power Plant.

    Varuna Tuesday, 28 August 2012 04:49 AM

If the government is like Norochcholai the UNP is like KARACHCHALAI ... just making annoying noises, creating traffic jams, achieving nothing.

    Lobo Monday, 27 August 2012 12:58 PM

The UNP can say what it wants but they are still incapable of defeating the Govt in the past how many elections?????? They should concentrate on putting their act together instead of looking for faults in the Govt.

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 28 August 2012 05:27 AM

Keith: the thumbs "up" and "down" on comments show very clearly who is making a "stupid" comment!

    MOHAMED Tuesday, 28 August 2012 06:52 AM

    Aruna Tuesday, 28 August 2012 07:45 AM

The thumbs ups and downs don't tell a story. The people who visit this site don't make up a balanced sample.
Your comment is stupid and moronic as usual.

Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 27 August 2012 08:29 AM

Well said. Always Breakdown! But some government ministers even boasted they were going to supply electricity to India as well. Another Minister said they can give loans to European countries!

    keith Monday, 27 August 2012 05:50 PM

callistus making a stupid comment again

Imran Hussein Monday, 27 August 2012 08:52 AM

Well said Gayantha. Actually its worse than that. At least Norochcholai power plant works sometimes after repairs. This regime is like Panadura offshore ship MV Thermopylae. Abandoned, leaked, sunk, polluted the entore region and killed marine lives.

citizen junior Monday, 27 August 2012 08:45 AM

OF COURSE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY YOU CANNOT COMPARE YOUR PARTY WITH ANY PLANT, ITS REDUNDANT, OBSOLETE AND IMPOTENT

    saif Monday, 27 August 2012 08:45 AM
