The UNP said today, that the government is just like the Norochcholai power plant which was built with low quality spare parts and also that the government comprises of Ministers who do low quality work.

“If this Norochcholai power plant was operational for one day it remained closed down for a month. Today, power cuts are imposed throughout the country. What the government said when power plants were opened is contradictory to what they say today. So the people say the government is just like the Norochcholai power plant", UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka told media in Colombo today.

Speaking on the topic of education he said the government had a downward policy on education. The government promised to make Sri Lanka the knowledge hub of Asia but how the government is going to achieve it by closing down universities, is yet to be seen.

“Today the universities are closed down: students and lecturers have taken to the streets to ensure their rights but this government and the Higher Education Minister have taken this issue very easy. Just like for other issues the government has sent the Economic Development Minster forward to resolve the education issue as well. Question papers are full of errors: results are confused. So the government is going to make Sri Lanka the knowledge hub in Asia by doing these things!”

He further said the government was clever at sweeping issues under the carpet rather than resolving them. They have proved this through their approaches. The government thinks that it is a panacea to appoint committees for every issue. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Well said Gayantha. Actually its worse than that. At least Norochcholai power plant works sometimes after repairs. This regime is like Panadura offshore ship MV Thermopylae. Abandoned, leaked, sunk, polluted the entore region and killed marine lives.
