Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka told the media outside the Colombo High Court that underworlds gangsters, such as thugs, rapists, drug lords and thieves had taken the upper hand in the country.

Leaving the Colombo High Court, where the white flag case was taken today, Mr. Fonseka said “in olden days our rulers toiled to safeguard the country, its culture and the people, but unfortunately today is a different story as they have joined hands with the underworld gangsters, such as thugs, rapists, drug lords and thieves.”

“This too should go down in the Mahawansa,” he quipped.
