We lankans are great at forgetting the past.We should not forget if not for this goverment we would be in darkness already n neeedless to say that LTTE would have also destroyed all public property if they existed at present...so dont blame the ministers they are trying their best to make Lanka the wonder of Asia slong with the aid of the President

Sunil Perera Wednesday, 15 February 2012 12:06 PM

In fact, this was the Biggest mistake of Chief of Central Bank of Sri Lanka , He tightly controled the Ruppe since 2007 to 2012 against the inflation and suddenly and it was relaxed suddenly and the value of the currency was depreciated at a spped of light and affected the ordinary sri lankan

he should not have done this mistake in 2007,

    Zscore Wednesday, 15 February 2012 12:54 PM

Just how have they made SL a wonder of Asia and how is that related to high fuel prices? Winning the war is not a license to destroy the country.

    Godaya Wednesday, 15 February 2012 09:43 AM

This is an eyewash only. I dont think of anyone who consumes less than 25 units per month. CEB is targeting full 40% from every household.

0 -30 unit price punting burden on garage houses , it good to go with flat rate , otherwise house have to switch to commercial rate which is cheaper than domestic rate if you use washing machine :)

and which govt do you think initiated the process?

    Tissamaharama Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:19 AM

This is a huge increase and will be met with stiff resistance from people. I will not be surprised if the government eventually reduces the inccreased percentage by a fraction and make a big show out of it saying that the governement always listens to the voice of the people.

teran jayasooriya Wednesday, 15 February 2012 02:15 PM

1)Rupee devaluated by the budget as IMF wanted.
    2) We spend millions of USD fro lotus tower & other exbiition work
    3) Our ministers waste millions of Rupees in their ministries
    4) Our leader lives a life that not even Brunei King lives
    5) & the result is we suffer. People war is over. Not even those funds used for the WAR is given to people.
    6)No wages increased.
7)We have to come to roads like in Nigeria. No option left now to curtail this injustice to poor citizens.

The stock market is crashing, the dollar is at 122 today which means the cost of all imports will be higher.... fuel is increasing, electricity rates are sky rocketing, transportation fares are going up..... and the income stays constant..... What is happening to Sri Lanka.... A change of govt is needed.

every cloud has a silver lining they say...... best way to overcome this is by converting all households to religious places after all almost everyone has a religion and and has place of worship in a corner..so why not make it public! few statues, a cross, a bell and loudspeaker is all it takes! whats more one can make some money by putting a till by the entrance for devotees to donate!

Rimzan Hassan Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:34 AM

    Bright Future......

Jamis Banda Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:26 AM

War is not an excuse for bad management of government institutes, public funds and curruption. After the war we wanted to reap the financial benefits on savings, not for the government to rip our gutts off. Ministries are over staffed in addition to wasting money on a zillion ministries. We could have manged this is waste was less. Also, why the increase charged from tonight? Do we have to pay more for the Electricity we consumed prior to fuel hike?

    Idea Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:45 AM

To provide relief to consumers government should imediately enforce a daily powercut for 5 hours so that the electricity bills will be reduced.

Premalal Perera Wednesday, 15 February 2012 03:12 PM

This is the ""Peace Dividend" so stop complaining

Thaha Muzammil Wednesday, 15 February 2012 10:48 AM

So many gifts by the government to mark the Valentine Day expressing its love towards the people.

    pissa Wednesday, 15 February 2012 11:01 AM

its not below 25 its between 0-25.
so every one who uses even 1 unit is affected.
    next is gas,food,water !!!
    wonder of the world!!!

    Rahmathullah Wednesday, 15 February 2012 11:03 AM

During election times, our people are fast sleep. Now, late wake up doesn't make sense!

World oil prices are without our control.

    saman Wednesday, 15 February 2012 03:54 PM

Even if you dim the light, your power consumption is same

Chanda dasa Thursday, 16 February 2012 05:27 AM

what a good news... at the biging of mahaweli project the government said sri lanka can export elctricity to india but we were in dark several hours in day. at the biging of kerawalapitiya power plant the government said we can sell electricity on cheap rate , at the beging of Norachchole the government said we can generate enough electricity and not to spend much money for electricity now what has happen ? every government teling baila ... people can not bear up this cost of living

    Ravi Thursday, 16 February 2012 05:47 AM

Why do not reduce the no of ministers and their facilities?

    Lavan Wednesday, 15 February 2012 04:11 PM

People who are under poverty is much more overburden with this dramatic increase . so government has to nurture them too.

where is the gas price revision?

Gehan Pinto Thursday, 16 February 2012 05:51 AM

So according to you, the ppl should accept everything with no questions asked just because the GOVT won the war. Don't get me wrong, winning the war was an exceptional effort, but that alone doesn't justify the mindless corruption & inhuman rate of inflation we have today.

    hapu Wednesday, 15 February 2012 04:18 PM

dont worry for these small increases. we are still paying for wining the war. wait ! more to come.

    Nodrog Wednesday, 15 February 2012 11:33 AM

Again the innocent public has to bear the burden just because CEB cannot collect from govt institutions, who anyway waste electricity because they don't pay for it.

    Renu Wednesday, 15 February 2012 11:34 AM

all will get out on the streets now

mohamed afzal Wednesday, 15 February 2012 04:58 PM
