The government today said the fuel prices would be reduced within the next few months, as plans were underway to purchase oil directly from producing countries.

Petroleum Minister Susil Premjayantha told the media today that Sri Lanka was now purchasing crude oil from Singapore, which is not producing crude oil, but distributing fuel to other countries after refining in their plants.

People will never realize how their attention switches from one thing to another.

    Nandimithra Sunday, 24 October 2010 02:42 PM

You mean the trend of fooling the voters - no date or price drop stated - all very vague. Some day, sometime and something less. Long live the Liars.

    Iran????

    Labby Sunday, 24 October 2010 07:30 AM

Its really funny how so many readers get carried away by a simple statement made by the minister. If a price reduction is possible by applying the method mentioned then it would surely have been done earlier. How naive could some people be !

    sltk2004 Sunday, 24 October 2010 05:42 AM

Why didn't we have this 'wisdom' earlier ? But any way there's nothing to worry i guess because we will be getting our own oil very soon......

    Dammika Sunday, 24 October 2010 05:49 AM

Bad news for JVP and UNP, Fonseka demand may continue for a few more months.

wije dias Sunday, 24 October 2010 06:04 AM

local boy Sunday, 24 October 2010 06:12 AM

hope not just by 10 rupees . anyway good move

David Richards Sunday, 24 October 2010 06:29 AM

Its nice if this gentleman make the comment after reducing the price. Mr. SB was going to increase univ. salaries by Rs. 200,000...! For those who knows about international oil market trends this is a joke. Buying crude from the world most expensive hub and refining them at the refinery that has the world's highest purifying cost per barrel due to over staff and corruption..... Truly Asia's little wonder

    Hassen Sunday, 24 October 2010 06:39 AM

Come on guys.... this statement is nothing but sheer bluffing.... perhaps an election is around the corner.... what a country,....

    Mushi Sunday, 24 October 2010 07:03 AM

yes, there is going to be local government elections soon and then price will sky rocket...

    Karu Sunday, 24 October 2010 07:30 AM

You mean all these years the government wasn't buying direct. Anyway the World markets will slump when Sri Lanka starts producing.

azher kamil Sunday, 24 October 2010 05:35 AM

    good move

    Gunda Sunday, 24 October 2010 07:39 AM

Going by the comments above, it appears Government has lost credibility. These annoucements are looked at with lots of suspicion and sarcasm.

    Narada Sunday, 24 October 2010 07:52 AM

How funny our voters. Any government can easily cheat our people. They vote for those who make promises, Most of our sinhalaya modayas...

    oooman Sunday, 24 October 2010 08:12 AM

    I agree narada...

    oooman Sunday, 24 October 2010 08:13 AM

how easy to fool gode sri lankans...

    Hamzie - Doha Sunday, 24 October 2010 08:34 AM

No specific month (few months) or an approximate amount.
We were under the impression that the crude oil were purchased from direct suppliers.

Its commonsense that, if you purchase through a third party, the price will be always higher.

    TB Sunday, 24 October 2010 08:48 AM

Good news for us but better to reduce the bus fars, the bus conductors taks money from the prassengeros too much.. pls take the action against them if we pass one hold they charge 6 ruppes extra

Nishantha Rajapakse Sunday, 24 October 2010 08:55 AM

I was going to say the same thing....

    Holman Sunday, 24 October 2010 09:21 AM
