Four suspects who were wanted for assaulting the Deputy Tax Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department in Matara on August 10th had surrender to the Matara court, SP Preshantha Jayakoday told Daily Mirror online

The four suspects have been remanded till the 6th of September by the Matara Chief Magistrate.  A close associate of a provincial politician is also wanted by the police for assaulting the Deputy Tax Commissioner.

Earlier it was reported that the CID had taken over six files from the Inland Revenue Department in connection with the assault on the Tax Officer in Matara, and it is believed that among them is the file of the millionaire suspected to be behind the assault.

The CID under the supervision of the IGP is conducting further investigations.  (Daily Mirror online)
