Four policemen were injured when villagers in the Nawaladi area in Valachchenei turned violent when they attempted to forcibly take away a suspect who was in Police custody.
The incident took place when the suspect known in the area as ‘Grease Devil’, for frightening women in the area, was arrested by the police. The villagers intended to take him into their custody.
The suspect and the four policemen are receiving treatment at the Batticaloa Hospital. The villagers had pelted stones at the police. Two police jeeps were also damaged during the clash. (Supun Dias) (Pix by Sarifa)
If the law is not implemented so as to protect the public then the public will take the law into their own hands. I would do the same if I have to protect my kith and kin from these "grease devils" or whatever devils. Lets not be hypocritical about it.

Oh Lord! Our country is facing harsh economic times, our people are suffering due to or governments corruptoin and totally inadequate representation of the whole nation. And now our country is facing a major catastrophe caused by "The Grease Devil"> you have got to be joking!!! I have read stories like this in comic books as a teenager not in major newspapers in any country in the world. Maybe instead of focusing on the Greasy character we should focus more on educating our people as they seem to have the intelligence levels seen only in worms and other closely related slipperry characters. The only Grease Devil I'm aware of is sitting as the current president of our country. So I believe this grease Devil may be a close relative of the Rajapakse Family

How do you know whether the police have already done their job? You mean hushing it up?

Well, Taking law into your hand is wrong but what will the public do when they are vulnurable with no assistance from the police. This 'Grease devil' or what the heck they called are frightning women to death specially where there are no men at home. Police dont do any night patrol at all, thus giving oppotunity for the rogues to play havoc.

Our people are increasingly trying to take the law into their own hands. Sadly in most cases the police had already done their job and these idiots think they can do better. This is not good however way you look at it.
