Member of Parliament General Sarath Fonseka lodged a complaint with Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa this morning saying his parliament privileges have been violated as he has been asked to attend the second Court Martial hearing against him this afternoon despite Parliament sessions ending this evening.

The second court martial hearing into the alleged illegal arms deal conducted by General Sarath Fonseka will resume today. Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasingha had told Daily Mirror online yesterday that the army had not been informed of any postponement and even though the General decided not to attend, his lawyers would have to be present in order to sit through the court proceedings.

“We do not know whether General Fonseka will attend the court martial but according to the army regulations, the court martial will not be postponed. His lawyers will have to be present when the court martial resumes at 14.00 hours tomorrow,” Major General Samarasingha said.

It is learnt that General Sarath Fonseka has informed the Board of Judges of the Court Martial that he would not attend the inquiry scheduled. (YP/KB)

He is only one out of 225 in parliament so the parliament can run with or without him but inquiry can not continue with out him , IF he want's to be free soon he should co operate .wich means He is Guilty .Those who campaign General to be to be free can learn a lesson

It is very sad to see the negative comments on General Fonseka. Couple years ago the many people in the counrty performed Bodhi Poojas to protect his life after the suicide attack. He dedicated 30 years of his life facing near death experiences to protect our country. We are an ungrateful nation.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:07 AM

BEING SELECTED TO PARLIAMENT ,GOING TO MAKE HIM MORE CONFUSED PERSON.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:21 AM

    Do not Insult General... pls

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:27 AM

The real leading force of the victory agains LTTE is none other than Gotabaya. He shares more than HE or SF.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:33 AM

Why all this petty play from the mighty General. If you are innocent and not guilty, please face the inquiry like a true soldier or a true General.
We have seen so many silly excuses and playing for time.
The General is only helping the government justify their decision to try him.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:34 AM

But he didn't keep the faith in the same people who perform bodhi pooja by betraying the country for the sake of some $$$$.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:35 AM

For a disciplined Army man all his adult life, I find his behaviour abysmal. If he thinks he is innocent, this is his opportunity to tell the world the evidence of his innocence. Hiding away from the hearing would only exacerbate his guilt.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:36 AM

Do Not insult the real War Hero Mr. Ananda and others. Every thing went wrong for him after he decided to be presidential Candidate.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:36 AM

Problem with us Sinhalese tend to forget what SF has done for the country like liberating the country from LTTE. I hope one day the very people who now criticise SF will not criticise Mahinda when he is out of power. Many forgot CBK liberating Jaffna . And Lalith winning Vadamarachchi and dedication of Ranjan Wijeratne to destroy the LTTE.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:37 AM

kids these days i tell you!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:47 AM

Why all this, why not try the age old saying. let's forgive and forget

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 08:04 AM

you are so right. Sri Lankans should be ashamed of themselves

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 08:09 AM

No where in true buddhism is their "bodhi poojas". It is buddhism that Sri Lankans consist of bodhi poojas, erecting statues at every nook and corner and blasting pirith at all times without practicing the true precepts that the buddha preached.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 08:42 AM

    Kumara,
don't worry. this is typical of Sinhalese and ungreatful people.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:05 AM

No! He deserves nothing...It was his job to defend the country. Remember that when you join the army, you take on an honourable position, a position that says you are ready to lay-down your life for the honour to protect your country. This man needs to face the military justice system for any crimes he committed and if he is guilty and it will be proved, then he must pay the price like everyone else. If you do the crime, you must do the time!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:23 AM

100% agreed. If he was not a presidential Candidate, he would have been a real war hero for all of us even now. No one will say anything against him.
Every since he wanted to be a presidential Candidate, everything went against him. How sad!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:41 AM

There was a time last year..the war was raging at full scale....and we all knew that the bombing by the Sri Lankan forces were killing inncoent tamils by the hundreds...since it was not the buddhists nobody cared...but when you have faith in god - you pray and ask for the ones who do wrong to be given their due punishment....It wont be too soon when we hear about the demise of the general

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:41 AM

    Tired of reading SF stories

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:49 PM

Sri Lanka is a nation of ungrateful people, except those who commend the yeoman service, rendered to the nation, by General Sarath Fonseka.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:02 PM

In Sinhalese there's a saying 'a fish dies because of its mouth.' The same theory applies here.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:41 AM

My privileges , my hot water , my A/C , my land , my my my …

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:13 AM

    poor sarath

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:13 AM

Hmmm. Someone is more worried about the privileges :-)

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:16 AM

Speaker is in a dilemma! Let's wait and see.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:28 AM

Let’s see impartiality or brotherhood? Blood is thicker than water.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:30 AM

You are lucky that this is not Premadasa or JR's regime so enjoy what you have and dont complain too much Mr. General.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:30 AM

Let the Court Martial sit. You stand upright in the Parliament which is supreme!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:33 AM

He's talking about 'parliament privileges' as in the privilege a MP has to attend all sessions of parliament!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:34 AM

its ok, Mr. Fonseka, you can submit a medical certificate...

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:41 AM

    LOL

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:02 AM

A legal confrontation, complaining to the speaker

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 05:56 AM

    again?

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:01 AM

You have to think wisely...Then you would understand.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:04 AM

    Complaining to another Rajapaksa?????

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:17 AM

Dont forget he fought for 'my country' too.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:24 AM

Don't insult the man who finished the war. doesn't he deserve to have necessities as a man who was critically injured for the sake of the country?

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:28 AM

Enjoy the little freedom you got, General.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:29 AM

    Well said Chintha.I agree 200%

This guy is nagging like an old granny .What a shame, be a man for once .After all you were once a General and commander of the SL Army. What disgraceful behaviour this is. Dont be a coward like your JVP bros face it like a real man

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:30 AM

If anyone is summoned to appear in courts that takes more priority than others. Complaining wont makes things changed.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:43 AM

Parliament is the supreme body and the MPs have privileges. So the Army rules must be secondary. Let the Court Martial judges adjust their dates to hear the cases, as in any case it is a total sham.
