A man who was produced in court on charges of having urinated in public was today fined Rs.50 after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The police arrested P. Wickramasinghe when he was found urinating near a restaurant located at the Old Dutch Hospital complex in Fort.

The police told Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne that by urinating in public the man had become a nuisance and a cause of displeasure to the people who were visiting the building complex.

They said the man who was also under the influence of liquor at the time of his arrest had committed an offence under section 62 (J-1) of the Police Ordinance. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

All of Delhi and all of Tamil Nadu are stinking big public toilets. We Sri Lankans are more progressive, so build more toiletsand maintain in good order. Idiots who have a free piss in public be fined Rs 500 plus court costs.

Let's make a little list of police duties these days:

Stand by while crime is being comitted
    Get drunk
Arrest chinese women and charge them 10 bucks
    Arrest couples who hold hands
    Suck up to VIP s
    Arrest grandmothers
Many people commit suicide on their watch
Release the dreaded white van characters
Arrest those who pee on the street
    Raid beauty salons

    Amazing!

it is good police use available laws to make society disciplined but please do it on every available opportunity. garbage disposal is also big nuisance. also citizens must have suitable environment so laws can be followed.

This should be practice after construct adquate public toilet. Policy should catch drunkan men who disturbing to general public. We thanks for Gota's good works.

    # Channa, What is the logic of charging in public toilets? How it is separately taxed when every one pays taxes directly or indirectly? Does the govt. encourage local councils lease these public conveniences for money making at the risk of infections? If they charge here what the health dept. does to evaluate the cost of medication for cholera, dysentery etc. etc? They charge not for washing rooms but for urinals without water, to piss standing!

    kiribath Saturday, 28 April 2012 01:41 AM

you break the law, if you put you thing out when urinating in public, so we have to find a way , without putting it out to do the job. Remember when nature calls , it can not be stop

    fusion Friday, 27 April 2012 07:23 PM

    I don't mind urinating on a VIP's vehicle.

    Channa Friday, 27 April 2012 06:49 PM

    Must build more public toilets.

Gamini Udagepola Friday, 27 April 2012 06:43 PM

First, the government must provide toilet facilities in public places. Not sure if this man was ignoring that facility, looks a habitual one here as he was drunk.

gajaman nona Friday, 27 April 2012 06:19 PM

Good. Not only in Colombo Fort, this should be practiced in other areas too. Recently I visited N' Eliya with my family where we witnessed a similar situation. Unfortunately we couldn't find a COP at that time.

    Mushtaq Friday, 27 April 2012 06:22 PM

hahahah what a joke ))) now cops have nothing better to do than catching people urinating on the side of the road !!
next will be spitting on the road !!
cops should catch the real crooks , for that they need guts ! but to see they don't have that.

    SAM Friday, 27 April 2012 06:27 PM

this man should have been charged for misbehaving under influence of liquor as the fine was more than 2000 rupees. the police must not use old police ordinance.

IGP this is over to you!
