Fake fertilizer seized

Welikanda police seized two hundred and seventy sacks each containing soil and rejected paddy instead of 50Kg’s of subsidized fertilizer, that were to be distributed to farmers in the Kalmunai area underthe Mahinda Chinthana policy.

Two suspects were arrested when the lorry was stopped at the Welikanda-Thrikonamadu police road block, police media spokesman SP Preshnatha Jayakody said.

The Welikanda police station informed the policemen at the road block about the transportation after information was gathered from the area that the fake fertilizer stock was to be transported to an undisclosed location.

I CANNOT HELP GETTING THE IMPRESSION THAT FAKE FERTILIZER WAS TO BE DISTRIBUTED UNDER MAHINDA CHINTANA. THIS COULD BE AN ACCIDENTAL 'WORD PLAY' ERROR AND HOPE NO ASPERSIONS WERE INTENDED .
