I noticed a lot of people don't know the words 'thankyou'.
Reminds me of a beggar (This was about 10 yrs ago) who once threw the Rs.20/= note back into our car because she complained it was not enough!
Shanil Samarakoon Saturday, 15 January 2011 03:19 AM
Relevance? We scold the west and still want their money?
Most of our infrastructure, trade and education is thanks to colonization...it works both ways.
jimmy Saturday, 15 January 2011 03:17 AM
grow up!!!!
same old story, whining. when something goes wrong the west is to blame. when something goes right it is all us. hypocrite!!!
if we can pass blame we should also give praise for the infrastructure that was developed that catapulted us into the global market.
if you disagree, abandon your western clothes, the english certificates and go back to vollages without using the roads or railway!
jimmy Saturday, 15 January 2011 03:19 AM
yes!
and we promise to do all we can to point our fingers at you and use it as an excuse for our errors!!!
Anemagekata Saturday, 15 January 2011 03:44 AM
Are you telling me Sri Lankans are a bunch of fools who cant learn and work by ourselves? Just take a tour of Anuradapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, etc., and see for yourself what the Sri Lankans can do WITHOUT the help of the greedy Westerners.
The colonial masters did not build the roads due to their love towards Sri Lankans. They built them for THEIR use, to transport the wealth of Sri Lanka to the harbor.
And from where did you get the idea that only whose who were colonized should speak English and wear Western clothes?
Anemagekata Saturday, 15 January 2011 03:47 AM
Citizen1, I am sure you are not a citizen of Sri Lanka.
If you were you will not compare Sri Lanka to a beggar in the street.
I am sure the 2.7 million dollars will come with 2.7 million conditions.
Ashoka Saturday, 15 January 2011 04:18 AM
Now our people have forgotten what they said against EU at the time of GSP. Typical Lankan style.

D.S.Senanayeke Saturday, 15 January 2011 06:08 AM
Y Ask the West. ask Ministers, MPs to give the money they got from Tsunami & commisins.Yes we do not need west .if our rulers honest.
Faqi Saturday, 15 January 2011 08:10 AM
Sri Lankans are the most ungrateful people in the world. They dont ever say 'Thank You" or " Please" even in their daily transactions. So how could you expect them to "Thank" the EU for their generosity.
manjula abu dhabi Saturday, 15 January 2011 08:44 AM

The weather is not erratic... the West is... the Earth is trying to heal itself from the damages caused for years by the plundering of the nature... there will be more to come...
Over the Top Friday, 14 January 2011 04:36 PM
When you get something free just take it. A typical patriot.
Sammy Friday, 14 January 2011 05:32 PM
Hope the funds will be used for the rightful purpose instead of being diverted to people's pockets.

sltk2004 Friday, 14 January 2011 06:23 PM
If we are really against the so called 'Western Forces', we should reject these aid.
Thas Friday, 14 January 2011 06:54 PM
EU, please don't give in cash. You know what will happen. It's better even the material assistance is fully monitored to see that the real beneficiaries get them.
raj Friday, 14 January 2011 07:06 PM
EU should deliver aid directly to the affected people and not to the government of Sri Lanka. EU should demand Sri Lankan government to agree its NGO should be allowed to deliver aids.
Kotte Kusum. Friday, 14 January 2011 07:15 PM
Some Ministers, MPs , top officials and Govt supporters are laughing all the way to their Banks.

We have had a whole lot of patriots in this country and there are no shortages of them even now who are looking for a free lunch... That is why this country is in such a sorry state!
noxurs Friday, 14 January 2011 09:04 PM
Well Sammy it happened before and there is no guarantee it will not happen again.
JUSTICE Friday, 14 January 2011 10:10 PM
Hope these funds don't end up like the Tsunami funds. Its best the EU distributes it by themselves.
TomSamUSA Friday, 14 January 2011 10:11 PM
Too bad that Kathirgamer is not around to carry the begging bowl.
Anemagekata Saturday, 15 January 2011 12:14 AM
Damages are estimated to be US$ 500 million. And all what the West can do is give 0.5 % of that!!
They should give more considering the fact that they were colonizing our country for 500 years.
Percy Mandawala Saturday, 15 January 2011 02:00 AM
Hope the funds receive the needy unlike Sunami days.
azath Saturday, 15 January 2011 02:21 AM
I hope at least a portion of it would reach the needy
