The whole country is bound to get assaulted by the present regime, United National Party Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya said yesterday.

Mr. Jayasuriya made this point while condemning the recent assault of former Sri Lankan High Commissioner in the UK, Chris Nonis in New York.

He said this incident was an instance where those who dedicate themselves to work for the present regime were assaulted at the end of the day.

Mr. Jayasuriya said Dr. Nonis had made an effort to do some good for the nation though there were issues on how he carried out his duties in the past. But he recalled Dr. Nonis won the award for the best diplomat in Asia some time back.

He also said the monitoring MP who had allegedly assaulted Dr. Nonis also has skeletons in his cupboard.

However, Mr. Jayasuriya urged the government to carry out an independent inquiry.

It is true that there are some problems with this government. But those are too small to compare with the bad things that you have done to this country.UPFA good-65% bad 35%. UNP good 10% bad 90%. There are no 100% good in any party in Sri lanka. So we have to choose the 65% of good.
