Mihin Air flight bound for Malaysia made an emergency landing at Katunayake after a fire erupted in the cargo compartment. There are no details of damages yet the Government Information Department said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror a spokesman from Mihin Lanka said that the flight that was landed was a flight bound for Jakartha, Indonesia. He denied that there was any fire and said the emergency landing was a due to a smoke alarm that was raised.
Meanwhile, our correspondent said that the flight which left to Jakartha at 7.30 am was landed at 9.21 am upon detection of the smoke. The 202 passengers on board the MJ 603 aircraft have all been evacuated safely.

Mihin Air service is really poor last week my family had a bad experience when the flew to U.A E . my family didn't have an option to fly on other air line due to seat were full and had to choose Mihin Air. On their return the had many issue. the 1st excuse 1. Flight Delay 2. Technical fault and was given a hotel with poor service giving one water bottle to share with 3 members
3.they bring the passenger to the airport in the morning and take them back again to the hotel late in the evening saying technical faults ( this to cover their food expenses of the passengers.)
Last thing what they did ways boarded all the passengers on the flight took them a ride around the runner away and announced saying there is a tire puncher on one of the tires and kept the back again on the remaining inside the fights for hours .What do you call the air line.

I fly for Srilankan Airlines. There is nothing wrong with their maintenance, if not I will stop flying. The problem is the money. Most Airlines in the world, may be all, are losing money due to World economic downturn. Singapore is sending their Pilots on no pay leave for one year. Kingfisher is bankrupt etc., etc.. I will be surprised if you can find one Airline making profits right now.

You don't fly close to India on the way to Jakarta. It is much better to come back to cmb if youcan, cos landing anywhere else adds up to the cost, viz; ldg charges, refuelling etc. It is the Captains decision.

this is a foreign conspiracy, probably US. we should stop flying US made aircraft.

Emmergency situation do arise in any airline, dispite of the owning party/goverment. I appreciate the brave pilots & crew who managed to save all those people alive back to ground. BIG solute to them.

Change the name to backfire lanka!
Prasannajit Monday, 09 April 2012 06:37 AM
RPT you wont be able to salute if there had been a disaster. You should know politics going on behind Mihin and Srilankan. Their maintenance etc. This is tax payers money they are playing with.

Mihin Air has been running at a loss from the very beginning and still they continue do so regardless. Could we afford as a poor country when we are depending so much on foreign aids. Why can't the administration see it when it is right front of their noses.
NAREN Monday, 09 April 2012 07:20 AM
Thier is provision for this in "MAHINDA CHINTANA"
